Better call a plumber, because it is leaking like crazy here.

The range of upcoming Belle devices is starting to materialize it seems. It started with the leak of pictures of the 700 Zeta, then a spec sheet, UA profile, FCC Filing and now we have an advert image of the Nokia ’500 Fate’

According to the text in the ad the Nokia 500 will sport a 1Ghz processor (Cortex A8?) and a 5MP camera. Further specs aren’t available so there is still some mystery surrounding this device. It will be available in three different colors though.

Looking at the design of this Nokia 500 (which apparantly is the marketing name) it appears to be a succesor to the X6, Nokia’s first capacitive touchscreen phone.

With this seemingly official ad leaking out it appears that the launch of Fate (500), Cindy (600), Zeta (700), and Helen (701) Symbian devices isn’t far away.

I cant wait to see Belle running in video and to see how it handles on 1Ghz processor, Symbian will never have looked so good

    • nick says:

Belle is entirely a strategy aimed at easing the transition to WP7 for long-time users of Symbian.

You can notice that in the UI especially, Nokia is trying to blend the two OS so that when WP7 does a complete takeover of Nokia devices, users won’t have reservations about its usability, capability, etc..

  2. Mario says:

Are we sure it is not just an ARM11 running at 1 Ghz?

    • Weirdfisher says:

Never heard an arm11 can overclock to 1ghz

      • N00-00 says:

There is one with maximum speed of almost 1GHz.

        “ARM11 Processor Family
        ARM11 Processor Family Image
The ARM11™ processor family provides the engine that powers many smartphones in production today; it is also widely used in consumer, home, and embedded applications. It delivers extreme low power and a range of performance from 350 MHz in small area designs up to 1 GHz in speed optimized designs in 45 and 65 nm.”

Check the table in Compare processors.

  3. inept says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if these were still ARM 11-based CPUs.

    • 352x416 says:

I am not sure that 1GHz can be acheived on ARM 11 easily or cheaply. My guess is it would be quicker and easier to just use Cortex (A5 or A8 or A9), besides I think Coretex uses less power and has more performance per watt and more performance per clock tick.

  4. Jay Montano says:

I can’t wait to see what Symbian might be like given the CPU/RAM it needs/deserves (and by need, to make it have some good longevity, not just good on launch day)

  5. d ^^ b says:

Yep, at least design-wise definitely X6′s successor.

X6 had similarly a 5mp camera. It also had Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash which seem to be missing here. This makes me think that it could be targeted to a bit lower than X6 was, just like the name starting with 5 suggests.

Also, does anyone have any idea what this new naming scheme is about? Is there any official information about it yet? My guess would be that XXX would be for Symbian models while phasing them out, but I have nothing to back this up.

    • Taras says:

the straight numbers are crap ..

the n,x,e,s series are better for marketing. But Elop likes bland..

    • Lloydo says:

Lame! I think having another new naming scheme is completely stupid!

This could easily be an C5/6 or X5/6…

Next thing, the WP7 phones will have stupid names like Hero, Pioneer or Zombie!

  6. Jerzy says:

Too bad all the leaked hardware for Symbian Belle so far is so ugly. Fugly ugly. Given the dearth of hardware qwerty devices in general, if Nokia released a proper Communicator/E7 successor running Belle (WITH a proper AF camera AND microSD card AND an FM transmitter) I would definitely snap it up. But not these handsets!

  7. Jason says:

i just have a feeling the n8 won’t get belle or maybe a water down version

    • Paul Grenfell says:

The 12mp camera will be a delay for N8 Belle, just as it was for Anna..
mmh , Anna…where for art thou??

    • Ninja says:

Which is simply not true. Nokia have said loads of times N8 will get Belle and leaks have confirmed it.

As Darth Vader would have said “I find your lack of faith disturbing”

    • Aliqudsi says:

It was confirmed that N8 would get belle but at least a month (quite possibly more) after it’s released for other devices :(

  8. Bosh says:

I really think that these phones + N9 and N950 are more than enough to bring back Nokia to lead the market.

Although I really really like WP7, I’m starting to think that ditching Symbian (Belle of course, Anna and before can be erased from the human knowledge) and MeeGo-Harmattan is not a good move.

    • Bosh says:

BTW, I really like the title :D

    • Ninja says:

Wow, a Windows Phone fan is starting to see the light and understand the truth.

      No kidding it’s not a good move…

What’s next, Jay and Andre turning back from the dark side? ;-)

      • Bosh says:

With Symbian S^3 Nokia’s fate was damned by the ugliness of the OS, BUT Belle seems to be a different story (just as MeeGo is).

I also like WP7 and I’m sure Mango will improve the user experience of the OS, but I don’t see why Nokia can’t have both MeeGo and WP7 for high end, just as Samsung or HTC have Android, and use Belle for mid-range phones.

IMHO, there’s a lot of market between $200 and $400 where Belle could fit in.

        • Raj says:

          yes yes yes.
Nokia shouldn’t be giving up any:
i would say let nokia have it all. after all this is the only company in the world that does serious research creating products suitable for the widest geography – a truly global product company.

windows, belle, meego, s40 – all can go together – different markets, different price bands different communities multiple devices…
i love the idea. and I would say nokia is the only company that makes phones that are unique in design craft and the user can select one that suits his taste. all iphones look same. all corbys look same, but all nokia’s doesn’t look same.
and hey – there was never an interop or phone transfer issues when you move across s40->symbian>maemo>symbian>s40 devices…
i would expect the same case with wp7 in the list as well.

    • Taras says:

      They can resolve Symbian issues

      2 year plan

      6 reference platforms …

so only 6 versions of Symbian produced.

Full conversion over to QT, and backward compatibility with s^1 apps killed by the end of the process.

During the 2 years, move symbian, from per device to reference platforms, which then be modified to suite markets with lower costs to produce that device.

XML to replace as many variants as pos. The n8 did not need 500 plus variants.

Old Symbian routines that either nobody uses or don’t know what they are .. removed or updated with a new api.

      just a suggestion of course.

    • Johnny Tremaine says:

Though I like the N9, I highly doubt it brings back Nokia to what they were in, say, circa 2006.

      Different times/different market.

The new Nokia is definitely a smaller, much for focused (largely on manufacturing) company.

  9. lore-rock says:

this is the 5230 successor in my opinion

  10. crisscross says:

Oh! Nokia going back to changeable colors, I remember my 8210 with golden shell….

  11. napier says:

Wake me up when the N8-01 gets leaked

  12. Viipottaja says:

Yeah, interchangable covers! Can’t wait when they’ll bring back the “cut your own covers from a cover of a porno magazine” clear covers.. those were the days! :D

  13. stylinred says:

interesting that they made it interchangeable housings/backs

but the ad doesn’t make the phone look too appealing i hope they don’t end up using that ;)

  14. Vikas Patidar says:

    Ha ha ha.

    Plumber sounds interesting.

  15. aikon171 says:

    Its multimedia processor is BCM2763.

  16. art says:

    wow! nice phone!

  17. marc says:

can someone tell me isnt zetta or 700 supposed to b the thinnest smartphone ever? but in the pics they look awefull.

  18. GordonH says:

Counting on Nokia to think sensibly?
Elop and Co are now doing everything for WP’s success. Symbian is being strangled to death.

    • Viipottaja says:

Drop those childish conspiracy theories already. Symbian is on the way out – yes. Will Nokia purposedly harm its sales and revenue generation – no! They will – OBVIOUSLY – aim to maximize short and medium term revenues, profits & market shares through a mix of Symbian, WP, N9, with the mix depending on the market.

      • gordonH says:

Take a look at the stock market. Nokia shares very cheap today, maybe time for you to invest like a man.
I’m the childish guy who sold off some NOK shares at $12. I haven’t grown up enough to buy it back at today’s prices ehmm….$5.5 .

  19. David says:

Does Symbian Belle need 1GHz to run? If so then how will the current S^3 phones (N8, E7, C6-01 and C7) run belle? I have seen many images of an N8 and E7 running Symbian Belle. Are those real or fake?
