Nokia’s future is bright says Minister for European Affair, @AlexStubb

| August 22, 2011 | 35 Replies

This was retweeted on my timeline by @brainimpact. It’s a comment from Alexander Stubb, Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Finland.

In response to a comment asking to share on Nokia-MS, Alex said:

“I saw Nokia’s future on Friday. And trust me, that future is bright! And here I’m speaking as a consumer, not a politician.”

Was Alex talking about actually seeing products? (Windows Phone products?) Or just reference to what Elop said? If the former then as a NOKIA fan, that sounds great to me.

It is bright indeed … i think so

  3. viipottaja says:

i gather he saw some products and good to hear he liked them. however, he is a born politician so the line between consumer and politician may be quite blurred in his case. :)

Stubb is a right wing idiot with a slick tongue. He says anything to lick corporate ass. He was an upper class school bully when young. Privileged power hungry asshole. That should tell you what kind of man he is. Not to be trusted, ever. Typical untrustworthy politician.

  5. XFCE-Desktop says:

I don’t like Stubb. He is too quick to pander to the right wing assholes in Finland even in the face of their extreme racism. If people heard some of the crap extreme right wing politicians in Finland say about foreigners, black people and muslims, I don’t think they would buy anything coming from our country. Luckily those far right wing people have been excluded from the current government.

If you’re referring to “true finns” party, it’s better for everyone to sneak peek their election programme summary, and see how the supposed “right wing” people think about taxation, government monopoles, etc. Also obviously no mentions about black people etc there, such comments are coming just from your own prejudice, and lazyness to find things out for yourself, as it’s just easier to shout around without thinking. And no, I did not vote for those guys.

And to the real subject, this message was written from a Windows Phone 7 device by a happy customer. Just waiting yo get one of these out from Nokia, it should be a recipe for a killer device, just as Alexander tweeted.

        • jim says:

Do you mean he is wrong? on what point?

He says everything correctly. Finland must control all the immigration processes and that is true!!!

          • BlandaUpp says:

So you really call black people the N word in Finland and that’s okay? You really think every black person entering Finland is an asylum seeker? You really think Muslims have no right to practice their religion in Finland? For the record, there are 0 minarets in Finland from where anyone does a call to prayer. Muslims have been in Finland for over 100 years and fought for Finland even in WWII! 90% is crime done by immigrants in Finland are done by Estonians, Romanians, Bulgarians and Russians yet you people continue to push the same racist myths.

  6. Bosh says:

I hope it is. I’m expecting the Nokia WP7 to be an excelent device :D

PS: Jay, did you get my mail about overpriced phones?

    • Ninja says:

      > I’m expecting the Nokia WP7 to be an excelent device

      I’m not :(

      • Bosh says:

Well, we have our expectationsm, I respect that. I really hope it’s good because I’ve been a Nokia fan since long time ago (My mom had a Nokia 100) and if WP7 is the future for Nokia (at this moment) I hope they deliver an outstanding device :D

  7. Sam says:

The question is when do WE get to see an official unveiling (and store shelf stocking) of these devices, especially the Sea Ray? Nokia World is much too long a wait. I’m sincerely hoping it gets announced at IFA in a couple of weeks!

  8. i love apple says:

it is just a good spec searay! same ui as other oem made winows phones! he likes it , it is pathetic

  9. gordonH says:

He’s a politician. Probably defending his ass for sitting idle while watching the destruction on Finlands homegrown Mobile OSs.

    • Cloud_Connected says:

      +1 on that.
What do I mind a politician´s opinion concerning mobile devices? Perhaps this guy still thinks S60 devices are top notch devices?

Stubb talking to Elop… I´m sure that afterwards (almost) everyone will think that switching to WinPhone was the best decision ever made.

    • joha says:

If you’re talking about Symbian, it’s not home grown in Finland.
Do you really think he has a say in what Nokia does with it’s OS? Just an other chance to try to spew some hate towards politicians…Please keep your politics out of here, this is a mobile technology blog.

      • GordonH says:

Dude wake up Nokia the article was about a politician. And it was all politics (internal & external) that got Nokia into this mess.

    • Diibadaaba says:

You are totally correct. His ideology is that everything good comes from the US and everything bad comes from the east (Russia mainly). He thinks that he can always say bad things about Russia even though he is the foreign minister and Russia being Finland biggest trade partner while the trade to US is almost obsolete.

I for one thinks that Elop is only and only thinking the best interest of North America and absolutely nothing else. Stubb is almost similar person so it is natural that they like each other.

Killing Symbian is to make monopoly for OS business to US nothing else. Rest of the world should wake up! He is thinking more Google’s and Apple’s interest than interest of Nokia.

  10. prashant says:

i think the company like nokia who are supposed to be and were leading giants of mobiles globally could nt be totally idiot as by thinking of some perspectives only they wud have chosen windows platform for their smartphones and i hope that minister had made his comment by seeing some killer rigs from nokia running on windows platform or might be tablet also.

    • gabriel9 says:

Import(use) someone else OS, which is only controlled from MS, next is that NOKIA assemble and manufacture devices somewhere else(China, Taiwan). And in Finland you only make stickers for devices and put them on. :/

I don’t have nothing against those countries. :)

    Where is the Like button?

  12. Cod3rror says:

Oh it’s bright alright, have you ever seen how bright the explosion is? That’s how bright Nokia will be.

  13. yasu says:

If Alex Stubb says so, consider me duly reassured then. Or maybe he saw Elop’s marching papers ?…

  14. BW says:

It seems that he has discovered the N9 :)
