Rumours: Possible Nokia Windows Phone Specs? #Wishfulthinking #Hydra #Nokia #900

Daily Mobile forum has an image of supposedly from a ‘reliable source’. This is the person’s first post on the forum and looks more like something that belongs in our dream-nokia sessions rather than actual upcoming devices.

The specifications aren’t actually anything extra-ordinary, what is expected from 2011 actually, but would be a surprise if Nokia brought something that matches the competition on this aspect (at least just for bragging rights, marketing etc). They do better in many other areas, but as a market leader they should be completely current on all fronts. Ignoring the fact it is designed in MS paint, let’s look at the supposed specs.

  • 4″ Gorilla Glass oleophobic screen
  • CBD AMOLED
  • Dual Core 1.5GHz processor
  • Dedicated graphics adapter
  • 720p screen (haha, I remember falling for that one when N9 supposedly had this, though there are real phones from competition supposedly coming with 720p screen)
  • 1080p 30fps video
  • 12mpx camera
  • VGA front camera
  • Swipes gesture (oh really)
  • GPS with AGPS
  • BT3.0, WiFi, NFC
  • 4 stereophonic(?) speakers
  • 32GB + MicroSD
  • 1600mAh
  • Price 500EUR
  • Available Q1 2012
The Nokia 900 is supposedly code named Hydra. Seems to be a theme with Sea Ray as Hydra was a Sea beast.
If that’s true, then I’d want one.
Cheers Adnan for the tip!

If true, NOKIA coming back with an vengeance. I will defo buy it.

    • Ninja says:

I will DEFINITELY NOT buy it.

Give me N8 + Symbian + Anna + Belle + N8 camera update, any day.

      Thank you very much :)

      • Bosh says:

I agree that the combination you’re mentioning is very good. But as my next phone the Nokia 900 would be a very viable option :D (specially because I don’t like those huge 4.5 screens, I feel like I can turn on the GPS and fry a fish on it).

  2. rr says:

    nice spec

    turn off windows homebutton!
    turn on Swipe

  3. jr says:

I doubt its real all 2nd generation Wp7 devices must have gyroscope and this doesn’t.

  4. Marcel says:

Looks too HTC-ish for my taste…

    • corraine says:

I think all smart phones these days look more or less the same. :) This is constrained by function since we all want a big (touch) screen.

      • Bosh says:

Not everyone. I’m just fine with my N8′s 3.5′ screen, after trying the Galaxy S II I realize I don’t like big screens, no matter how good the phone is, it’s not comfortable to hold in my hand.

  5. N00-00 says:

I think this is a phone from somebody’s wishlist. The reason why I feel so is the updated spec from MS for WP doesn’t include 720p resolution nor the 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Moreover Nokia has already stated at least few times that the phones will have “Nokia” feel from mid 2012.

  6. iloveapplestype says:

what is the point of having windows button when there is swipe

  7. Terro says:

These are the specs for Nokia’s Mango phones:

    http://www.theunwired.net/media/news/windows_phone_7_mango_hardware_foundation_mix_11.jpg

WVGA screen and single-core Snapdragon processor.

      • zonk0r says:

These are the foundation requirements?.. notice the “Or Higher”..

Plus we already know Qualcomm are producing a 1.5GHhz dual core for the “HTC Ruby”..

Also, since when was gyroscope’s specifically mentioned on lists like these?

        @ Jay – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereophonic_sound

Having said all this.. i really don’t believe a company would be silly enough to put a 720p screen, 1.5Ghz processor and a fancy camera ( if we assume with xenon) into a device with a 1600Mah, non removable battery??

My SGS2 is a power hungry beast with a 1.2Ghz sammy chip (which are more efficient than the qualcomm ones – Re: benchmarks) with a 1650Mah battery.. but luckily i can carry a spare with me… (which is still a complete pain)

SORT OUT THE BATTERY LIFE ON PHONES PLEASE!!!

        • CheesCo says:

The “800Mhz or higher” is referring to only the clock speed, not the number of cores. MS would have included specific CPU ranges that had dual-core in the spec if it is supported. It is not something they would gloss over. It may come in WP8, but it is anybody’s guess at the moment.

Note that WP7 is based on WinCE which never had multi-core support on the get go. The Linux kernel that is used by Android, Maemo and WebOS had that from the beginning.

      • Souvik says:

        Nokia and Qualcomm sounds odd

    • cipox says:

      +10,000 .

    • Tak says:

Thats the original WP7 hardware requirement. Mango could make similar spec bump as 3gs did to iPhone 3g, while allowing os update to old devices as well.

If the processor is Krait with Adreno 320, I will buy it, if its Scorpion, I will buy N9 or iPhone 5.

I don’t believe Elop would have acted so bullish, if the specs were that old shit.

Lets have that gaming phone now and don’t forget shoulder buttons.

      • Terro says:

No, these are the new hardware requirements for Mango.

“I don’t believe Elop would have acted so bullish, if the specs were that old shit.”

        I think he would have.

  8. Spitfire says:

Only if it has a Xenon Flash and able to play divx .avi videofiles… then I’ll consider buying one…

But the specs so far I can see here are really incredible!!

  9. Markk117 says:

it’s a concept or a true hw spec?

  10. sanprime says:

I dont think the design of the phone is real. . . Im sure nokia wont go for such a bad design. . .

  11. Rudeboi says:

Sounds like a Nokia fan boy tech dream to me. However if it is true then that would be very nice and just what Nokia would need to shake things up here in the states. What would really be nice if it’s a windows version as well as a meego version or symbian.

  12. john says:

specs are very similar to the supposedly samsung nexus prime…

    http://www.gsmarena.com/is_a_samsungmade_nexus_prime_coming_in_october-news-3025.php

  13. Rock says:

“The specifications aren’t actually anything extra-ordinary”

    -.-

    • Jay Montano says:

By the time that is available, (if it ever would be) those specs would be standard in the industry. I don’t mean to be a downer, they’re excellent specifications, though not extraordinary – not new or setting itself ahead of other handsets.

It might not need it. This might be the more than enough in actual usability. I mean at 1GHz single core my Omnia 7 is extremely fast already (hence why I get more sensitive to any ‘lags’ perceived in other phones.

  14. Mika says:

Specs looks good but the picture doesn’t :(

  15. Specs seems to be an overdose for me. :-P

  16. nokia3660 says:

USB 3.0??? come on… Lets first get a proper BT 3.0+HS.

Also I am still wondering if nokia had decided to go blast with the HW why BT 3.0 when N9 has BT 4.0?

    Looks way too fake…

  17. Cod3rror says:

    I love these news threads.

I call them the weekly, sad, desperate Nokia fanboy howl.

“Aaauuuu, we want a good phone Nokia, auuuu!!!”
“Aaaauuuu, Belle update, we want! Auuuuu!!!”

  18. prashant says:

1080p will be possible only in the nokia n8′s successor and the other specs are fake they are not even required to be rumoured….i think i hv said enough and betr…..

  19. btdt says:

This can be the flagship of second generation Nokia wp7 phones. Highly doubt it though.

  20. zaxxx says:

sounds a bit unreal especially the price. make it real nokia pls.

  21. Jaydee says:

Crap..!! Even the warning label on top right sounds crap.. hahah.. :)

  22. Nagol says:

I won’t be surprised if the battery life won’t be too good since it has a 1.5ghz processor.

  23. Tkadrum says:

A Sea Change for Phone 7 Adoption
But two interesting things happened to me recently for me:

    1. I sat in a meeting last week with all “business people.” No one in the room was technical… at all. These people are financial types—not my types. So, during the meeting when it got a bit boring and over my head, I discreetly took numerous peeks at email on my Windows Phone 7. When the meeting adjourned, one of the guys said in front of the entire group, “How do you like your Windows Phone 7?” Shocked, I retorted, “I’m surprised you actually know what a Windows Phone 7 is, let alone recognize it.” And I gave my usual answer (mentioned previously). Interestingly, every one of them agreed. And here is the shocking part. They all showed me that they each carry two phones: an iPhone and “one to talk on,” which is a simple Verizon phone with no Internet access. At that point I said, “Well, when this one is available on Verizon, you’ll be able to carry one device.”

    2. Both my teenagers expressed a desire to get a Windows Phone 7. These are pretty well-rounded kids who have carried Androids and iPhones forever and who would rather die than have anything consumer-related from Microsoft. Surprised, I asked them both why and got basically the same answer: “I have a friend who has one, and it’s awesome.” I thought to myself: “A grassroots Windows Phone 7 swell within the elite teenager community? No way!”

Is this Windows Phone 7 adoption going faster than I thought? Significantly faster than I ever predicted? Faster than Silverlight? Well, after doing some research, I’ve found that the answers are “yes” and “yes” and “maybe,” which shocks me. Here are the relevant stats:

  24. migo says:

I’d go with fake too. Won’t have 720P screen resolution, there won’t be a Windows Phone device with resolution other than 480×800 for at least a year. I find 1080p @ 30FPS recording unlikely too given that so far the best GPU supported by Windows Phone is an Adreno 205. 1600mAh battery is also unlikely, Nokia always skimps on battery size, I don’t expect them to change that now, and 500EUR… well if that 15% price cut applies to all future pricing that does seem about right, but somehow I doubt Nokia’s willing to race to the bottom with their top end device. I don’t think Swipe will happen any time soon either, I’d expect that to come out only after they’ve got a successful bug-free launch of stock Windows Phone, and it would be really surprising if that weren’t just introduced in Windows Phone 8 across the line.
