Videos: Symbian Belle demoes on Nokia 600 and Nokia N8
Here are a couple of overviews of Symbian Belle, one is the official Symbian Belle demoed on updated hardware in the Nokia 600 (should be similar to 700 and 701). The next is another long overview, about 13 minutes on the Nokia N8.
The Nokia 600 Belle overview comes from CJ of ZOMGitsCJ
- Something new that CJ points out is the red cancel button also acts as a power/profile key. Hmm..
- I still find it odd that the 600 is the loudest phone but it’s the 700 that has that kinda ugly looking front facing speaker grille.
- Just look what well placed transition animations can do. A simple fade in/out removes any perceived delays and also directs the user’s attention to what’s happening on screen.
- I do prefer the lack of folders by default, (you can add them later). This means that all apps are immediately visible, not hidden away in random folders that are quite inconsistently placed.
The Nokia N8 overview is partnered with a very detailed overview of Belle by Nitish.
This is the unofficial leaked Belle that quite of you have put on your N8 already. Whilst this leak is not officially supported by Nokia, a few Nokia staff have openly mentioned having Belle on the N8, one example being Nokia’s Comms Director, Mark Squires. Let’s hope they stick to their promises this time and deliver Belle in Q4 (for current S^3 devices). Though Anna was delayed heavily (prior to being called PR2.0) at least they met the August deadline (for the majority of folks).
Thanks to Anand Ikona and jill for the tips!
BTW, from our last post, we saw that Nokia mentions Symbian^3 Belle update would be available for the following handsets. As 352×416 pointed out, where’s the Nokia 500?

Yeah, location widget!
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/bg5r8i5ihh0iyyj/locationwidget.jpg
Is it just me or is that the default iOS wallpaper? (in the N8 vid.)
not only the wallpaper, but the screen position dots too.
PLus data connection widget/active connection is not present in the current release of belle.
Maybe the lack of a GPU in the 500 means it won’t get belle?
wanna know pdf reader works on 1 ghz cpu, my pdf reader really suck. could open smootly larger file, even after update to anna. They need gpu based pdf reader.
Did you used Picsel smart office? PDF view in PSO is so faaaaaaaar better than Stock PDF reader, also has flip view, quick load and continuous page change. Is great, test it!
does yours work in landscape mode?
thanks , will tried it.
V.1.2.7 works great in landscape; I just installed 1.5 and I’m seeing a strange behavior in landscape, blurry, I can’t see anything; Is your same problem?
Update: Reinstalled V1.5.1; Landscape problem stills, back to V1.2.7, this version works great, some features are missed, but landscape is very important to me. Anyway Picsel annunced V1.7 soon, so lets wait a litte to get V1.7, Picsel expects big improvements in that version…
thanks dude, yup mine is 1.5 landscape is just like you said. thanks for the update news as well.
what’s with the fascination with HTC-ish clocks?
because it looks like a real desktop clock (a real desktop btw)
That’s what the N97 should’ve shipped with.
still dwelling in the past are we?
N97? I ditched that years ago.. How long do you guys keep these old relics? You want latest Apps and Firmwares, but you dont update the Handsets to run them !
A handset should be replaced every 2 years or thereabouts.. Technology moves too fast to sit on these things..
I even replace my Computer every 3-4 years..
take a look at this Cod3rror! ive dedicated this post for you!

I dont think animated wall paper or themes supported
Is this an updated version of the one that has leaked a few weeks ago or the same?

Just for the record this is ONLY reason iPhone (and Android) have convinced so many people that they have a better UI experience than ANY S^3 phone ever (since first release). And indeed made the actual small gap between S60 5th and iPhone experience look like a wide gulf.
iPhone’s and Android’s dirty little secret is that they are in fact no faster on average than an S^3 phone. And yet they run much faster processors. Which means their operating systems require much more power. Which means they’re nowhere near as well engineered and efficient as Symbian. Which is why I stick with Symbian and not jump ship to other OSes.
These are technical folks, be glad you have Symbian, you have the best OS there is.
> These are technical folks,
Folks? I meant facts!
Please. Not even close.
While I agree that simple transitions can add freshness to an OS, iOS and Android have done far more than simple transitions to convince people to switch.
I have used both OS’s and I can understand why they use iPhones and Android devices.
that’s one of default belle wallpaper entitle water_drops .
no thats the iphone wallpaper. the one in belle looks much better.
Which other OS does both portrait and landscape home screen. Apple (no and will never), Android (No and may be in future)
Symbian still the best and now with updated UI, i dont think i will ever buy any other device apart from NOKIA (symbian)
Any one call me out dated, think again because i use DAB radio on my nokia E7 and i dont think any other device in this world does that apart from Symabian.(one of the feature advanced)
nokia 600? cool! i miss my n8 more and more….ill buy a used model then!
Some really good stuff to look forward to in Nokia land Windows Phone, Symbian belle and the Nokia N9 can’t wait !!!
