“Firefox 9.0a1 on Nokia N9 scores 314+9 on html5test, beat that!”

| September 20, 2011 | Comments (52)

Back in June we got some HTML5 scores from some current browsers, with the N9 soaring pretty high. Jukka Eklund from Nokia tweeted that with FireFox, N9 scores even higher (314+9 bonus) points.

Safari on desktop got 293+8 bonus points.

Check out your browsers at http://html5test.com/

Cheers HaugMedia for the tip!

Okey i changed my mind i’m buying this …

  2. mrtman says:

good but the challenge is actually on nokia to make the stock browser score even higher

  3. Antonio says:

Opera on Desktop gets 311 + 7 bonus points.

    • Ma_t14 says:

You are probably talking about the stable 11.51. You cannot compare a stable build to an alpha one. For comparison the latest Opera 12 pre-alpha scores 321 plus 7 bonus points (with websockets enabled)

I just thought I’d point that out

    • Ma_t14 says:

Sorry, you are probably talking about the latest build too. You just dont have websockets enabled. Go to opera:config and search for the word “socket”

Love the way Nokia is just continually blowing away misconceptions and preconceptions about it’s products these days:

1.) “Symbian UI is crap”…. -> Belle beats Android + iPhone

2.) “Symbian is dead”…. -> 10 new handsets, multiple updates etc, this year alone

3.) “Nokia browsers are crap”…. -> See story above

    Coming soon:

4.) “Nokia’s best camera will soon be beaten by rivals”… -> successor to N8 coming next year will put Nokia cameras YEARS ahead again :)

5.) “Nokia’s lost the smartphone race and is on the way down”… -> S40 becomes smartphone platform, sells a few hundred million per year, leaving Android in the dust.

    • Nabkawe says:

Nokia browsers are still crap , Firefox 9-0a1 is what managed to get that score , thanks god we have firefox now i really hate Opera …

      • ravo says:

yea opera sucks.. i hate it.. no flash :( dont know if they have it now but they did not have it when i used it

      • GS65 says:

The default browser scores 283/14. That’s still much better than default browser on latest Android, iPhone4 and iPad. And this is with the proto N9 firmware, might be better on realease. MicroB was better than the iOS and Android browsers of it’s time. So SYMBIAN browsers might be ‘crap’, but Nokia browsers definitely are NOT crap.

    • outdated os says:

windows phone 7 ie9 will blow this away. Windows rocks.

      There. You happy now?

    • Harangue says:

One unfortunate thing though, this test only looks for HTML5 compliance. In other words if it supports certain elements.

It means nothing in terms of real world performance, the speed at which a browser can render a page. It might still be that Nokia made the fastest rendering browser with the N9, but the HTML5 test doesn’t test that.

Things like Sunspider test real rendering performance and there are a few more that really show which browser is better in real world tests.

Again, not slagging the N9 here. Just adding a little more info to the story that this doesn’t mean it is the best in real world performance.

    • Ninja says:

For all those saying the default Symbian browser is crap, I totally agree (compared to Opera for example, I disagree with anyone saying that Opera is crap, on the contrary it’s excellent, and Flash support while a nice to have is nowhere near essential – iPhone proves that).

      • Ninja says:

And incidentally T9 portrait keyboard even with Anna is still TERRIBLE, and irritates me practically every time I use it. Again, this and the browser are not the Symbian OS though :)

        • Mapantz says:

T9 portrait is fine, and so is the browser on Anna. The browser does have a couple of issues (which get resolved on Belle) but it’s still better than Opera. Saying flash isn’t essential is a poor anology. At the end of the day, people can successfully visit websites that have flash, and use it! You can’t do that on Opera.

    • Hypnopottamus says:

You are absolutely hopeless. Everything you listed above except point 2 is an opinion only supported by your delusional outlook of how things really are. And you have the nerve of accusing others of not being fair or balanced.

  5. Nabkawe says:

    MeeGo/Harmattan Nokia N9 and N950 255 14
In Html5test it showed 255 :) though i bet its an old version …

  6. Nazty111 says:

new swype 2.0 for anna on beta labs! very nice!

  7. guest says:

Firefox 9? What’s up with their versioning?

  8. et3rnal says:

    313+9 bonus (Firefox 6)

there is a Nokia project to port webkit2 (what they used in N9) to Symbina so be happy :)

    • odinserben says:

Really?? That would be extremely interesting if they were to actually release a Webkit2 browser for symbian. I asked about the webkit version relevance for symbian belle on daily mobile but got little in the way Of a useful response. have any links or references To info about this? I would live to have more info :)

      • MoritzJT says:

Yeh just a few DM guys would have insight into this via dev mailing lists, but there are two browsers in the pipeline, one forked of QTWebKit2 and one stock WebKit2, but it will take a while before they show up…

        • odinserben says:

Uh oh, like a long time as in 6 months or less, or a long time as in a year(aka, Nokia time :) ). I’m dying for a killer web browser to FINALLY wind up on symbian. Is this gonna be a Nokia official type deal or is it a 3rd party company that’s putting it together?

  9. cipox says:

BlackBerry OS 7 got 260 +3 lol, native anna/ belle browser ? My anna only got 96

  10. N00-00 says:

Awesome…. Can’t wait to get my hands on one…

  11. BellGo says:

Ok why does everything the N9 touch turn to gold? And why does Nokia apparently dislike gold?

    • HD says:

Because Elop thinks Steel shines more…

      • Harangue says:

Steel is more durable than gold though. :P

        • HD says:

Does that mean jewellery should be created with steel..
Hah.. that means though you agree that N9 is Gold and WP steel.. :P

          • Harangue says:

Nah, both are gold as it stands now. I don’t participated in the I-love-the-N9-and-therefor-hate-Elop-and-WP song that’s been going on and on for a while now.

I’m interested in seeing Nokia becoming that desirable brand once again. If that is with WP or with MeeGo I don’t really care. As long as I get the experience that I want. Admittedly though, as it stands WP is more my cup of tea opposed to the N9.

But that doesn’t mean I hate the N9, to each their own.

  12. richard says:

    What is Skyfire’s score?

  13. OSagnostic says:

This is a compatibility test not a speed test.

  14. ricky says:

    firefox 9!!
    full flash support?
    Adobe 10.3?

  15. Markk117 says:

make a screen of the result!

  16. braca says:

I got 278+8 points on samsung wave bada 2.0
