Nokia Lumia 900 (Ace) to come to USA early 2012

| November 29, 2011 | 70 Replies

BGR says they’ve got info suggesting that the Nokia Ace  is coming early 2012 to the USA. We knew new Windows Phones from Nokia were coming and much more higher end was obviously coming so this is possibly just reiteration of what you guys know if you’ve been following the Lumia rumours closely.

The Tango powered Nokia Lumia 900 will also meet a huge marketing blitz in the USA for January and February, so BGR reckons that the new Lumia will be launched after CES in January (which is tipped to be on Verizon, but AT&T will also be bringing some Nokia Lumia love).

Here’s Elop telling us all about it:

Verizon
At&t

We just got the lowdown on one of Nokia’s upcoming flagship devices currently set to launch in early 2012 in the United States. According to our source, the new Nokia smartphone will be the Lumia 900, a Windows Phone with the same basic identity as the Lumia 800 but with a bigger display and other enhancements. The handset will reportedly feature a 1.4GHz processor, a 4.3-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel camera, and it will ship with Windows Phone “Tango.” We have also been told by a trusted source that Nokia is prepping a huge marketing blitz in the U.S. for January and February, which leads us to believe that we can expect the Finnish vendor’s new flagship Windows Phone to launch some time after CES in January.

Cheers Joni for the tip!

If America gets the leaked phone from that promo a while back I’ll be furious. It’s so ugly! I want the best specs there are to offer, but goddamn Nokia, that handset looks awful! And the 800 is gorgeous….

  2. BellGo says:

..So the US gets the 900 before the 800?

  3. xyz says:

A bigger N9/Lumia 800 styled Lumia 900 would be cool. Just soften the corners a bit more, they look dangerous ;) if it comes with NFC + Frontcam I’d be happier than I was with the Lumia 800 specs.

  4. Spitfire says:

Really too bad that microsoft doesn’t let Windows Phone play divx/xvid in .avi or .mkv formats and doesn’t support bluetooth file transfer and no USB-on-the-go.
Otherwise ACE would have been my new device next year.

    • mushfiq says:

who said it doesnt play avi ????

      who ????

      • Spitfire says:

Because microsoft restricts their devices to play only .wmv and .wma…. formats that have been introduced in the past by microsoft itself.

        • Doffen says:

Really? What shitty move. Proprietary formats and limitations of all kind seems to be the rule…

          • napier says:

Stop your whining and get in line! This is the New World Order!
            Death to Openness!
Now go download your Zune software!

            • Sammyl says:

No Need to get in line or wait to buy a restricted phone. You can get a iPhone 4s now, with front facing camera, dual core processor, smart voice command, butter smooth UI, etc…..

Nokia WP7 phones do not excite at all.

              • N00-00 says:

“No Need to get in line or wait to buy a restricted phone”

And you suggest the most closed phone in the whole wide world?? Microsoft is following Apple with all these closed policies… Suggesting to buy an iPhone instead of WP for its closed issue isn’t a good one. Android should have been your suggestion..

                • zonk0r says:

I don’t quite think you got the satirical tones there…

what he is saying is iphone/ios is just a more complete closed platform than WP7, both equaully as bad in terms of open-ness.

so why buy the incomplete one?

        • jr says:

IT PLAYS AVI.. STOP THE LIES

    • jr says:

IT SUPPORTS AVI.. ALL FILES ARE STORED ON THE SKYDRIVE WHICH IS ACCESSIBLE ON EVER PC WIT INTERNET.. STOP WHINNING..

  5. Kyle says:

I hope there won’t be any delays in the deployment of Tango. I’ve heard Microsoft is cruising right along with it, but Mango in beta seemed to be out for a long time before it started showing up in handsets.

Nokia can’t afford to have any delays on software if they have hardware ready to go, and releasing a Lumia 900 with Mango as a stop-gap solution is not desirable either as it will likely not have any of this extended Nokia signature that we keep hearing about (apart from what we’ve seen on the current Lumia phones).

  6. XtiaN8 says:

I’M hoping it will come to T-Mobile also…

  7. dss says:

Well this whole Wp7 strategy thing only makes sense for the US, so here we go. It will be really strange to see Nokia try to advertise their products here in the States…I’ve never seen it before

  8. Eddie says:

Nothing for T-mobile or unlock that works on t-m 3G that sucks ! always at&t damn .

  9. DGui says:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say Ace is the device meant to get US support back, other countries will just be a bonus. Let’s just hope the price is competitive enough…

BTW, How’s this for a teaser?
    http://dgui.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/teaser.jpg

    • Viipottaja says:

Well, its not bad at all, but I hope the design is closer to the Lumia 800.

So is that a pic you photoshopped or it was sent to you or what? :)

      • Rebbe says:

isn’t it a photoshoped version of the nokia x3 with the keypad replaced by a bigger touchscreen… Because the top and bottom is very similar to x3

      • DGui says:

Nah, just photoshopped, just wanted to show the other possible colours it may come in, though it’s still a bit ugly and the design isn’t as awe inspiring as the N9…

    • d ^^ b says:

Yep, let’s hope the price will be OK with carriers subsidizing it.
Then let’s hope that Nokia can deliver the message that a dual-core isn’t needed but that it’s the experience that counts.

With carrier partners they should make a campaign that asks people to come to the store and try it.

  10. MyNokiaLife says:

GIVE ME IT!!!!!! BLACK WITH BLACK TILES likes mynokiablog showed in the French ad?

    4.3in.. Yaaaaaaaaaaaa Baby!!!

  11. Jesse says:

    Please, hurry up already!!!!

  12. Bob says:

This puts Nokia in a difficult position. Released only a few months after 800, this may piss off existing 800 owners (price is likely to only be marginally more). And for new buyers, why choose 800?

    • Jesse says:

Very true, but the 800 was lacking features out of the gate and people still seem to be buying it.

    • Harangue says:

800 will drop in price, so would be buyers than can be persuaded with price perhaps. However, I doubt the ’900′ will be similarly priced. It will probably be €100 more than the 800 at launch.

Or Nokia will really try to steal market share and slash their own margin. We shall see.

    • Viipottaja says:

It could also be that 900 is a US only model, at least initially.

  13. Jcar302 says:

This should be interesting, i was considering the n9 for christmas, but if the 900 is right around the corner i should at least see and hold it before i commit to the n9.

  14. nokfan says:

Seems another Osborning.. Don’t buy 800. Wait till 900 cometh ?

  15. RollerTroller says:

So nokia will show her ugly 4.3″ Ass to usa next year
as pointed out so many times
    wp7 doesn’t support avi/mkv….only supports .mp4
when you transfer 720p mp4 movie via Zune then Zune will automatically convert it to cropped 480*800 resolution
    what a waste of a 4.3″ display

  16. BaBiS says:

some specs are here as well
    http://www.symbiantweet.com/nokia-lumia-900-coming-to-us-in-early-2012
    seems right to me

if is true the ui of the windows with the live tiles i like

i was thinking get the lumia 800 but the luck of features together with the high price of it had stop me

I WILL WAIT FOR THE 900
I HOPE THE LUMIA 900 WILL BE IN UK AS WELL
IF NOT COME BGIN OF NEW YEAR I WILL GO FOR THE HTC TITAN

COME ON NOKIA I PREFER STAY WITH YOU.BRING IT IN UK

  17. Seylan says:

:( ! If the rumored specs are true, I will be disappointed, again! The next gen of Snapdragon S4 chips will ship in a few motnhs time, and if Nokia chooses the same old second gen, then it will be kind of out-dated. And 800×480? Sorry Nokia, as much as people say that resolution if ‘just fine’, I want more than that! I want the very best, something that i thought Nokia would always do. Such a pity, an 8mp camera. The competition are already beating/catching up, I mean even the iphone ! :o
For a ’900′ device it should have a 12mp, at least.
I know the Lumia 900 will have a stunning design, but I think that would be its only killer feature. And that is simply not enough!
My dream specs for it would be:
4.3″ 1280×720 RGB Amoled display with 0.01s refresh rate, Polarizing layer(CBD), Hydrophobic Gorilla Glass, dedicated video processing engine.
1.5 GHz dual-core Arm Cortex A15 with POWERVR Rogue GPU (ST- Ericsson Novar U9600 Soc)
    1/2 GB ram
    64/96 GB internal memory
12mp Af camera with True Zoom,back-illuminated, largest mobile image sensor with dedicated image processing, new Ultra-bright LED Flash
    Full HD @ 60 FPS with 720p slow-motion @ 120 fps.
Slim tapered design(7mm at thickest point, 4mm at thinnest)
    Port-less(no microUSB/3mm port, sim-card build in)
ALL Wireless( wireless HDMI transmitter, wireless charging, next gen bluetooth, etc..)
    Brushed “Duralumin” lightweight unibody
    100% water proof

    Ah, its good to dream.

    • nokfan says:

impossible even if Nokia wants to. WP7 doesn’t support any of those.

    • Pökö says:

Whats the point throwing spec from outer space here. It doesn’t feel like dreaming, just being dumm.

For example 7mm thickest and 4mm otherwise is just stupidiest idea for a while. Have you any idea how uncomfortable in hand that would feel like? Just trying to get proper grip would be a nightmare.

And screen resolution. It is not “just” fine to have that 800x…, it is more than fine. You really can’t tell the difference. Its all about contrast, colors, viewing angles, reflections that matter how the display feels like.

      • Seylan Naidoo says:

Actually it will be comfortable to hold, think of the N9/Lumia 800 design, but much thinner. Most of the specs are probably possible for a phone in 2013.
The point is people look out for specs! I would never buy the Lumia 800. Sure it looks good and gets the job done, but a phone is something most people have for 2 years. It should still be up to date in a years time. The 800 will unfortunately be outdated in a few months time. Me, and I’m sure many others, want the very best, and Nokia for now is not delivering. By the way, I’m not a fanboy of any make or OS. I kind of like all of them, except Blackberry!

        • Pökö says:

How will the Lumia be outdated in a few months time?

Do you mean that there will be faster processors to Nokia phones within 2-3 months? Maybe so but how does that make Lumia 800 outdated?

Does it start to lag or maybe it doesn’t run the next version of WP OS?

          I don’t get it.

        • Keizka says:

They are more likely to look at the price most of the time, or the design. Proper marketing helps too.

Techsavvy people look at specs. That is, the people who frequent sites like this one.

        • viipottaja says:

          unfortunately it’s 2011 now

    • Fer says:

      Really like your thinking.
Screenres should be 1280×768 or 1200*720 to keep aspect ratio BUT no less…
Camera 5-8MP is enough; prefer optical zoom or low lighting capabilities over Pixels # any day…
Dual core will be for WP8, hopefully with W8 kernel…
      High battery capacity…
and LOW WEIGHT to top it of.

      Lets wake up to it

  18. JD! says:

Wish they launch the same form factor with Symbian ;-)

  19. rueaka says:

    thanks for the post !

  20. WinP says:

@Jay Montano, do you think will there ever be a lumia with 4″ screen size. I believe this should be the perfect size overall, not too large, not too small. 4.3″ is a little large for easy mobility in the packet (at least to me).

  21. Henry says:

1.4GHZ processor is good enough to perform this phone faster. I like other features especially the unique design of this Nokia phone.
