You may already be familiar with this application because it’s also at Nokia Store. Poynt of course is a location based service that, well, points you to places. This may be restaurants, businesses, events and movies. It’s like the extra features available in Nokia Maps for Symbian but as a separate app. (Does the same thing as local scout I guess, but I never had that when I first started using WP and I just got attached to using this app)

#18) Poynt

The app is utilises metro panorama well. The main start screen has quick access tiles for weather, restaurants, businesses, movies and pan over to see events. Each of these squares can be pinned as a separate tile so you can access very instantly a portion of the app itself without going through the main app. After this page pan over and you get businesses followed by restaurant finder, movies finder and events finder, finally with an over of weather in your area.

The look is clean, you have a nice pastel skyline at the back as is the general look of Poynt.

Usability: 9

The app itself is simple and straight forward to use. Just tap on the particular type of thing you’re looking for or pan. There are apparently additional US only features such as offers and checking gas prices.

The only thing I would like is a home button, quickly just bring be back to the main screen so I don’t have to keep pressing back.

Performance: 9

Quick enough start (about 2-3 seconds), very stable and very fast and fluid panning through and navigating the app. Multitasks.

Thanks to the quick GPS in the Lumia 800 it makes it less of a pain to find things local around you.

The only thing I had an issue with is looking for businesses. Not something I’d personally use but looking things up often tends to not yield results.

The app was recently updated, not sure what the changes are.
