Nokia Lumia 800 blasting other Windows Phones in France?

| December 7, 2011 | 25 Replies

It is not even a month since the Nokia Lumia 800 was available in France at it has already shot to number 1, past the 1st Generation and 2nd Generation WP’s from other manufacturers.

Whilst you might say it was easy since WP has little footprint anyway, I think that should again say something to those doubters that said no one would want WP and denied any possibility of this possibly beating other manufacturer’s WP handsets in desirability.

The data comes from Arnauld Michelet, an independent developer of an app, traffic France, who is able to analyse the users of his app. The weekly users shows Lumia 800 quickly taking over Samsung’s Omnia 7 – previously the top holder of the crown. Is it just because the Lumia 800 is the new phone? No, not really. The newer Titan and Radar are barely making a blip.

Whilst this isn’t sales data like the one we heard yesterday of Nokia 800 beating iPhone 4S and the rest for KPN Netherlands, this possibly indicates good performance by the Lumia 800 in France. You might remember that The Phone House France was the first place to say the Lumia 800 was doing well.

I think Nokia should just be the sole provider of WP7. Other OEMs never really put much effort into their devices, and the new releases of Samsung and HTC were probably just to ride the popularity of the 800. Unlike those 2, with Nokia a reliable update would be in reach.

Personally I like the Titan better than the Lumia. Lumia looks way nicer, but it doesn’t have a front facing camera or a gryo. If the Lumia had those two things though it would be a no brainer, definitely the best looking Windows Phone device!

Oh and camera, from what I have seen the Titan has a better camera too.

I have had front facing camera since forever and never used it. Way too much talk about that in comparison to the real usage. And I use Skype and seldom use the video chat even on PC. Also I have hard to believe that HTC camera is better. Have you seen a serious test or just guessing from specs? In all I think form factor is ten times more important than gyro and 10000 times as important as a front facing camera.

Hell no, Nokia being the defacto provider for Symbian is what killed it. Windows Phone needs several manufacturers to keep everyone honest.

      • Stound says:

what killed symbian was bad management and lack of developer support and of course US tech blogs putting it down and defacing it

Other companies do not care about WP. They tried it and it didn`t sell well, so they concentrating on Android. WP is second or third options to them. Nokia will come to the same conclusion in few months but it will be too late.

Eh? How do u know that?
    “WP
is second or third options to
them” – is that so? If WP is third option, care to enlighten us on what’s second?

Anyway is this a surprise to anyone? Nokia would probably smoke everyone else too if they were producing Android phones.
