Video: Chris Weber Interview on Nokia Lumia 900, Lumia 710 and North America

| January 10, 2012 | 5 Replies

Here’s a video of Nokia’s US President, Chris Weber talking about Nokia Lumia 900 and the T-Mobile 710 as well as the Lumia plans for the States. Nokia’s plans are two pronged. To address the basic feature phone users with a relatively cheap, but excellent user experience Nokia Lumia 710 but also to have something relatively high end too with the 900.

Weber says the strategy is clear, Windows Phones through operators to the point that Nokia wants to be the most operator friendly manufacturer around. Well, good to see Nokia understands that these operators can be king-makers. Good relationships with them can get you places whilst bad ones, well, look at how Nokia disappeared from the US. It was nice that Nokia was defiant and not letting the networks mess up their phones, cripple them with bloatware or make them pay for features the phone could do for free, but that as we saw was at the cost of Nokia losing the North American market.

At the end of the interview, Weber talks about his 16 years at Microsoft, left before Elop and then followed Elop the ex MS-come-Nokia CEO. Weber liked the opportunity to turn things around. There were so many assets at Nokia and so many things and that the strategy was the right one. He then says that he had no idea before February 11 which way Nokia would go, whether it would be Google or Microsoft. So that was slightly re-inforcing perhaps that they couldn’t continue with Symbian and MeeGo and were going one way or the other anyway. Or perhaps that’s exactly what you would say at this point in time.

Chris Weber is President of Nokia for North America, and in this interview with Nokia Conversations at the CES 2012 show in Las Vegas he talks about the new Nokia Lumia 900, Lumia 710 and Nokia’s re-entry into North America.
