Live Wallpaper for N950 w/ PR 1.2 (N9 support soon?)

| February 15, 2012 | 37 Replies

If you follow me on twitter, you’d see that today Nokia Australia gave me an N950 after talking to some people at the Lumia Launch. Anyway, I have PR 1.2 (and will probably give you a guys a run through of it, as well as comparison of it with N9) and went to enable landscape support using Homescreen Settings app. The latest version includes support for changing the wallpaper, but sadly, when you download the same version for N9, you don’t have all the options.

The N950 displays the option of having “Sine Wallpaper” which is a live wallpaper, almost identical to the one found on Playstation 3 & PSP. Below is a little demo of the app’s wallpaper features and the live wallpaper.

  1. Angry Developer says:

And to think there are still developers out there that need that device more than you. I don’t see anywhere that you are one??? Bio at least says nothing and cant seem to find any apps in your name. Care to clarify??

    • aboodesta says:

      Stop hating.

    • Stound says:

Well since not many devs will be developing for MeeGo now, I don’t see any reason to be pissed besides the fact MeeGO has been slain

    • Michael Faro-Tusino says:

I am doing home brew devs. Of course nothing has my name yet. Device gets bricked and need to reflash constantly, losing most progress. That is why I got N950. Working on reboot apps, emoticon themes, status bar battery indicator, helping other devs like the one creating Dropian with their works, so I think it is safe to say its not a wasted device?

    • mj says:

You also have to look at it from a regional perspective, here in Aus they are still pushing to get more apps for Qt.

  2. stylinred says:

u got your hands on an N950! you lucky dog!! grats and thanks for showcasing this wallpaper :D

  3. chris skylock says:

i used to have a nokia n950 but i returned it because i cant make apps. But you have one just for review or something

  4. Jazz says:

So what they just “gave” it to you?
Most devs in the CDP’s weren’t even allowed that.
    It’s essentially a device on loan…
    Illogical Nokia is illogical….

    • Michael Faro-Tusino says:

Yes, I was discussing about how I am doing some home brew stuff with N9, mainly hacks and mods but progress is slow as device gets bricked, need to reflash, and since primary device, sometimes cant afford loss.

Also showed interest in WP dev workshop. So a Nokia employee got my number for that, and also passed on interest in dev work. Was contacted and told they had an N950 in the office if I wanted it as I “showed extreme enthusiasm in development and a willingness to broaden knowledge.”

I am doing Software Engineering and Computer Science at University (double degree) so app development is something highly close to me. Before judging me that I have this device and not being a famous dev, just consider a few factors. Like MJ said, Australia is pushing for local developers and this is I guess their way of reaching out.

      • Jazz says:

No judging at all, just bewilderment…
Sounds like a case of right place, right time.
But good for you, I’m sure you’ll do some good stuff with it.

        Thanks for explaining! :)

      • Buzzinga / jody says:

blogging helps Nokia a lot, this blog alone makes you deserve it even if your just a collector of Nokia phones. congrats!:)

      • Tiago Silva says:

Congratulations! Now you’ll be able to report even sooner on beta updates!

  5. Buzzinga / jody says:

its this app available on n9. its awesome ;)

  6. LINES says:

N9 is awesome! Hope it will be included in PR1.1 :)

  7. James says:

Why wasn’t there ever some decent N9 CDP’s anyway?
It makes no sense to limit dev access of beta builds to only the N950.

  8. John says:

will it be available to symbian belle users also???

  9. Cod3rror says:

Nokia are idiots for dumping MeeGo and going with WP7, should’ve poured all their resources into MeeGo and the N9.

Just proves how much they lack confidence, they panic, let go of the wheel… well rest easy now, Microsoft is at the wheel, and they’ll drive you safely… right off the cliff.

  10. ace says:

What is live wallpaper? Can anybody tell me?

    • Michael Faro-Tusino says:

It is a wallpaper that moves. So just animated. Mainly seen on Nokia’s feature phones and Android devices

  11. Paul says:

Kinda ugly live wallpaper, but I guess it’s WIP, buuuut knowing Nokia, it’s not.

  12. HaugMedia says:

Looking forward to the rollout of PR1.2 at the end of this month/beginning of next!

  13. Tiago Silva says:

I hope the animated wallpaper is easy to hack, like an animated SVG or PNG, or even SVG SMIL scripts to animate a static PNG. Unleash the developers!

I want the PS3 wave animation on my N9!

    • Tiago Silva says:

One thing I hadn’t understood was that this post is not about new features coming in PR1.2, but extra settings that are unlocked on that app. Well, on my N9 (PR1.1) the app does not have ANY wallpaper related settings (app version 1.2.3).

  14. aab says:

in Nokia they called organic wallpaper, it’s been long time ago put on s40 even before android born

  15. Dubrave says:

The wallpaper option is enabled on a PR 1.2 install. If you are installing this on to a PR 1.1 image, you will get most of the settings, but not the option to set the live wallpaper.
All in all, a great app and the wallpapers look great on the device. The slow screen rotation is a bit of an issue, but I am hopping that that can be fixed in coming updates.
