Strange Nokia phone design with unknown segment above the screen

This apparently surfaced from some new Nokia design patents.
What could it be? I have no idea. Possibly a d-pad for a return to old N-gage gaming? :p
These designs are apparently new, appearing October 2011.
What do you reckon it might be?
