Nokia’s Lumia WP8 to knock the socks off Samsung’s ATIV-S next week
Nokia UK’s Dave Trevaskus is making some bold tweets again on twitter that’s got me excited.
In response to Wom Warren (from TheVerge/WinRumours) who said he THINKS Nokia’s phone will knock the socks of Samsung’s ATIV’s, Dave says
“ I know it will!!”
Dave’s certainly excited and since this morning has been tweeting about blowing socks off.
Well, it’s not a question of maybe it might. It HAS TO.
This and all of the news yesterday is certainly pushing the hype meter so high as to make anticlimax inevitable. Fingers crossed Nokia delivers!
Also Dave jokes
Ha, imagine if that was a hint of something from Nokia that would beat SG Camera (well, 808 ALREADY does that, no :p)
Category: Nokia

Sounds familiar..
Lets hope for the best and that they can live up to the hype.
Yes, I was hesitant when I read the first tweet about blowing socks off.
Although that comment from last year can be explained here:
http://mynokiablog.com/2012/08/26/new-lumia-wp8-soon-be-excited-be-excited/
Lumia/N9 design was not yet known and did blow our socks off, no?
Anyway, the more reliable part is Dave’s answer to Tom.
I read what Ewan at allaboutwp have to say at about Samsung ativ and I agree.
Now there is a benchmark that can possibly prove Nokia is light years ahead of its competition, or that its special relationship with MS is not that big a deal after all.
It alleviates some fears of mine of Nokia doing the old Nokia-compromise-specs trick and going with a single core for their WP8.
I’m think it’s at least ATIV’s specs wise (except perhaps screen size)
Possible Nokia will compromise, but I think -not now- cause this is WP8 it should be better than the previous Lumias.
I am excited with the device too. I think I will migrate from S^3 to WP8.
Nokia isn’t in the position for any “compromises”. The next wave of Lumias have to be outstanding in every single way.
Is it even possible to have single core WP8? I think at the start there is only one chipset available (so everyone has the same HW) and also when the debate was about WP7 (non)upgrade, it was said something along the lines that WP8 needs at least dualcore.
About the galaxy camera and how people claim it will kill the pureview phones, seriously, pick up the galaxy camera and make a call with it. Or just try and hold it and put it next to your ear. Now look at the mirror and see how silly you look.
People looking silly with huge phones….yet people use Galaxy Note and take pictures with iPads. :/
Lol, yes, Some tourists look so silly using these slabs as a camera. Imagine trying to make a phone call with them.

lol..
Pretty sure it’s not even possible to make a phone call on the Galaxy Camera, without hacking the device that is, and even then the mic and speaker would be in the wrong place. It is simply not a device meant for that, or for competing against PureView.
Pureview is literally guaranteed.. Nokia come on.. Its time for you to return to your throne..
What will it have, that will blow the socks off the 808?
i am also curious!
Maybe PASM control? Pureview Changeable Lens? Picoprojector on lumia?
Or swipe to get rid of the modern ui on wp8?
Windows Phone 8
Thats all? The 808 is going to continue reigning at that rate.
LOL. No.
I mean, come on. The 808 has an awesome camera and… that’s it.
You are wrong, and you know it
@Paul…In my opinion, WP8 is all that is needed
Return to no 1 just like Roger federer. Lame comparison i know.
Tweets are showering to make path for the KING’S RETURN.
beats the samsung ativ AND the galaxy camera, wow i hope nokia dose not disappoint after those claims ,
maybe a lumia pureview with 21x carl zeiss lens ??
Well, thats probably whats on the cards, but its still not going to knock the 808 off its perch.
only if its a 41mp will it take the 808 crown,
No chance of that,,
@ms.nokia…camera-wise, yes – it will need a 41MP sensor to equal the 808. However, in every other regard, WP8 will best the 808 for my usage
“for my usage” is key.. in that regards Symbian is clearly better for me.
Around the internet…so much excitement for the new Lumia’s
WP8 FTW!
“Knowking the socks off the ATIV S” okay that’s one thing, but what we want is knocking the socks off both Galaxy S3 and future iPhone 5.
One thing is for sure : they are frightened of Pureview, that is why they making it bold on cameras right now.
And another thing, but frightening for us : People have forgotten Nokia, they have forgotten the leader in innovative imagery, the leader in phone and design innovation, and they actually are taking Samsung seriously, as if they were leader in somewhat inginery.
Look at all the “geek” websites : they’re all waiting for Apple and Samsung flagships, okay I can understand for Apple, but Samsung ?!? Come on, they’re making washing machines, microwaves ovens, freezers, even clothes… They do not care about innovation or people’s need, if human trade was a business they were selling everybody out there.
It’s like if everybody was waiting in front of Wallmart for their new 1$ products. Come on. Sam-sung ! Do you know Sam-sung !? This is reverse marketing, I can’t believe they’re actually doing it for real.
In these same “geek” websites, they aren’t very excited about september 5th, they know Nokia will be introducing something but that’s all, nothing groundbreaking for them, not a major event for them, nothing to shake at our faces. They vision are upside-down, how old are they ? Aren’t they the same people who used to be proud of their N95 ? Or are they born in 2007 ?
Try the s2 and get a taste of Samsung the copy cat.
But the s3, it’s a different story, the UI, the smoothness, the screen clarity and size, the thinness… it all spells a different Samsung, a Samsung ahead of the pack.
I have tried both, and I’m not sure what you’re talking about at all. The S3 is almost identical to the S2 in terms of specs; the only difference being the body design and a newer version on Android. There isn’t a really a noticeable difference in terms of smoothness between the two. Plus the S3 is uglier than the S2, but the S2 looks more like an iPhone. So no surprise that with the S3, Samsung tried to move away from the iPhone look. It proves Samsung’s own designs, when they’re not copying others, are awkward and ugly.
The hype machine works tirelessly… I prefer to forcibly lower my expectations, so in case 5th Sep. won’t be exciting I won’t be disappointed – and if it will be exciting, I’d just act surprised
Anyhows – Nokia, less talking, more doing!
Nokia seem to be getting the hype….Can’t wait…..5th seems not to be coming fast…..lol

Rubber band,
I ♥ Rubber band,, LOL
Don’t worry, Samsung will just copy it 5 minutes later. That’s their thing.
My 40th birthday is on the 8th of September and all I want is the return of Nokia. I’ve watched quietly over the last few years as Nokia has gone down and down (along with my Nok Stock) and I’m really getting disillusioned with it all. Nokia have everything, EVERYTHING, they need to build the next gold standard phone… So why won’t they do it?
Consequently I’m putting all my hopes into September 5th and will be sorely burned if they don’t deliver. So here’s what I want to see in their new flagship:
WP8
4” AMOLED CBD Screen @1280×720 (release multiple devices so we can pick the size if necesssary)
2100+ mA battery
Duel core (quad seems silly and a waist of battery?)
32Gb+ externally expandable
FM transmitter (I miss this so badly from my N8)
PureView (Nothing else will do)
NFC
HDMI output (miss this, too, from by N8)
USB on the go
Inductive charging would be nice
The only other critical factor is that this device MUST be available to buy within a few weeks, or at least several days before the iPhone 5 is available.
Best of luck Nokia and give the loyal fans something to brag about at last
I also would add wireless keyboard & mouse with full Office. Where can I send my money and old mac desktop computer?
LOL at the “hand crafted” device from Dave that beats the Galaxy Camera, that’s awesome
.
