Nokia Lumia 920 tech specs and official page.

So it was a bit difficult to follow what was happening in today’s presentation. Much of the same information could have been packaged significantly better but hey, Nokia doesn’t do presentations. Shame since the CGI video looked so cool.

Anyway onto the page. The grey looks a bit boring there but it looks nice in the picture below.

Blur free photos. Stabilisation is one of the key things on my DSLR. When I turn it off, the pics I get can come out quite poorly. I’m very interested to see how this performs in real life.

The best touch screen on any smartphone. PureMotion display.

I felt this along with PureView optical stabilisation was rushed.

Wireless induction charging. Love this on my touchpad.

  1. Jay, there were certainly some hiccups (ironically some technological ones) during the presentation, but wow they fit so much into that one hour. I wonder if most consumers really understand how crazy it is that Nokia was able to produce that image quality and still keep that slim profile. The image stabilization by itself is remarkable. Really impressive stuff, especially some of those Camera apps (like the one that can erase objects from an image).

Some things that perhaps could have been included:

    An estimate to market?
The LEDS and there new capacities ?
A few more NFC demos (they did rush that part especially after the slight tech mishap.
Is there USB OTG or USB-to HDMI?
Do the cases for the New 820 come in different textures?

  2. Beelzebozo says:

    Sensor size 1/3 inch – That’s pathetic.
Short pulse high power dual LED – So no Xenon, pathetic.
No mkv support – In year 2012, that’s pathetic

And it’s with WP, the worst OS around.

    What a massive failure!
Nokia is a sad joke nowadays.

    • Dave says:

Haha of course the usual comments, they could have cured cancer on stage and you and your alter egos would be complaining :-)

Well, you go buy your android, I’m definitely getting the yellow 920 :) See you!

      • Beelzebozo says:

Why would I buy an Android when I have the 808? I couldn’t give a flying fück about apps, games and social crap like Facebook and Twitter.

Camera is and has always been the most important feature for me. If the phone fails in that department, it’s a failure. 808 is the yardstick. 920 is a pathetic failure since (the old) Nokia already showed with 808 that they can make a much better device.

The only thing that I would like to have from 920, is the image stabilization. My guess is, that the IS was already available for 808, but Elop didn’t allow it to be used in 808.

    • krustylicious says:

with only 7 million lumina SHIPPED todate yep its a massive massive failure..

Once again i feel sorry for the 40k who have lost their jobs.

    • rinslowe says:

      Nice try Bob,

Your lunch break is over, time to get back to store and polish those Samsung demo units…

Oh what’s that I hear? Your phone is ringing, dada da da dada da da dada da da daaa… Your 5 year old nokia is still going strong, nice.

But I guess your just angry that while trying to save for SGS 2, three kinda just flew on by…

      Bummer.

  3. ummNo says:

Lumia 920 without buttons below screen. Pure all screen design. It would look AMAZING. One can only dream. #SwitchToJolla

    • petejoff says:

      +1

unfortunately jolla won’t have pureview camera :(

got the design team of the n9/L800 fired with the meego team together? why so much space on the bottom, all those small details, which makes the n9/L800 incredible sexy?

  4. viktor von d. says:

guys what happened to the new asha phones? seems weird all they had was lumia

  5. steelicon says:

“The ‘Oh sh!t we just released another product that won’t sell…’ look of Stephen Elop”

    vs.

“The ‘Who’s your daddy now, Nokia?’ look of Steve Ballmer”

    According to GSMA.

Nokia Lumia 920 “PureView” vs. Nokia 808 PureView Pro

    No Pentaband.
    No MHL.
    No HDMI.
    No 3.5mm SD AV Out.
    Heavier than Nokia 808 PV.
    No AMOLED CBD.
    No Dolby HD Audio.
    No Nokia PureView Rich Recording.
No external card slot expansion (microSD)
    No Xenon flash.
    ND Filter is questionably absent.
No Adobe Flash / Flash Lite.
    No FM radio.
    No Radio Transmitter.
    No Java support.
    No high quality MEMS microphones.
No DivX/XviD out of the box support (questionably downloadable as app).
No MKV out of the box support (questionably downloadable as app).

The comparison list goes on and on and on…

    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4967&idPhone2=4577

BUT… now for the good news.

The Lumia 920 “PureView” will make the Nokia 808 PureView a household name. It will make the Nokia 808 PureView to be more sought after. The Lumia “PureView” will be sold in volume, so it is free advertising for the Nokia 808 PureView, considering 8.7MP vs. 41MP, people would rather buy the original true PureView Pro technology. Not to mention the draconian restrictions of Windows Phone 7.x/8.x.

  6. James Scott says:

Well the hardware is done, the software is done, looks like it is all up to the ad guys now, they had better get busy.

  7. lmiked says:

Hah… It’s ok… But… Didn’t blew my mind nor blew my socks off as they said they would… Guess I’m gonna have to wait for the successor of the Lumia 920 to see if Nokia can blow my mind and make me buy another Nokia… Till then… I’ll just hold on to my N9 64GB which is so AWSOME with all the tweaks and mods right now…
I think that the LUMIAS 820/920 might sell well though, they’ve got enough stuff for the general (masses) public, like James Scott said, it’s up to the marketing teams now to do their job (well done) specially considering the good camera of the 920 and the puremotion hd+ (what’s with Nokia and the word pure now? Pureview, Puremotion… Lol) screen supposedly being better than any other screen out there… But anyway, still just not enough for me.

    cheers

  8. crocoboy says:

too much bezel and kinda of heavy.

don’t get me wrong it’s a good looking with lot of innovations but it could have been BETTER.
Another missed occasion for “ULTIMATE AWESOMENESS”.

Aaarh Nokia! only you can do that: 2 steps front, 1 back.

No MCSD, No HDMI, No Radio… I mean how u make a successor that miss some features the predecessor had and even your competitors had the as well… i don’t get it.

and on top of that it won’t be ready before 2 months.

…and knowing Apple will hold his event in 1 week… Good Luck Nokia.
