Introducing Nokia Xpress Web App Builder: Create engaging Series 40 web apps in minutes

| September 25, 2012 | 8 Replies

This is hopefully a better version of the App Wizard but for S40. It’s the Nokia Xpress Web App builder for quickly making apps on S40. It takes updates from your blog or social network and allows you customise and publish at Nokia Store.

Join musician Ben and discover the power and simplicity of Xpress Web App
Builder. Ben wants to deliver content from his website and social media
accounts, to fans with Series 40 phones, in one simple to use app. Xpress Web
App Builder enables him to do this. With this simple online tool, Ben delivers
his content with engaging layouts that he just drags and drops into the app.
When he is finished, Ben distributes the app through Nokia Store. And when
he is ready, the code from his app can be passed to a developer for further
customisation in Nokia Web Tools.

Is this like the one that was designed for Symbian Qt, and essentially packaged an RSS reader?

Close, but no cigar. I tried the wizard (it is very much like the old Symbian RSS wizard, only now with widgets for facebook etc. So an ok improvement I guess) but it started giving me grief about the VAT number (which I knew I had put in correctly) AND it wanted me to make a 1 EURO payment via credit card. I was making a free app so I can’t be bothered to go through all of that. My loss, but their’s also.

I gather the one Euro is there to stop just anyone from making “this is my butt” app for fun and submitting it to the Nokia Store.

Fair enough, but that wizard is only really good for creating free apps. And for a free app you should not have to jump through so many hoops. By the time the payment came up I had already had to fill in what felt like 20 pages of forms and did not really feel like finding how many more pages were ahead. But aside from this it looked like a nice wizard.

Look at any other app store. $99 per year on Apple and MS.

I hardly think 1 EUR is the end of the world. What i am saying its it not easier on other platforms
