Interview With Elop (Filmed with Lumia 920!) Thoughts on HTC, Pureview & Ashas

Engadget have gone full out covering Nokia’s homeland and taking the tours, here’s an interesting interview with Elop filmed with the Lumia 920 (first ever video sample, sound is recorded on an external mic. though-still a prototype device though) the quality is pretty impressive, almost no shakes at all; as if it was filmed on a tripod crane.

Elop touches on HTC’s copy catting once again sating that alot more goes into a device than just the colors, but says this proves that Nokia are the new “trend setters” which honestly can’t be denied. When asked about the naming of HTC’s devices (Windows Phone 8X), he points out that Lumai devices are a special breed of Windows Phones, and that’s what Nokia have to offer, the Windows Phone experience on a Nokia. On the topic of the current range of Lumia devices NOT getting WP 8 Elop was quick to point out that these devices are NOT EOL (end of life), and that they will continue to improve these devices.
On the topic of PureView Elop hinted at newer versions of PureView coming to “lower price-points” calling the 808 & 920 “building blocks” for their Photography’s future.

Guys,
The lady in blue top really attracted me and got my attention more than Mr. Elop. Elop no offense to you.
must be a really cold room
+2
Mmmm, yes, love that stare…
Nice being a CEO I guess.
I’m not the only one who saw something sticking out the shirt?
Fortunately not
OIS makes the perspective weard…
yeah it kind of gives me a headache
Have to agree. Have to see it for myself, really. Who knows how much the guy shook, and the very close distance may also affect the result. Finally, its still a prototype/preproduction unit.
But, there does seem to be some odd wobblyness, bottom of a bottle feel to it that is a bit annoying at times.
I found the video weird too. It was a bit like when a widescreen TV is set to show 4:3 images in 16:9 by stretching the edges more than the centre.
That kind of distortion is there just because it has a wide-angle lens.
Looks to me like there may be some video stabilisation going on in post-processing as well, perhaps because of some automatic settings when Engadget combined the video and audio in whatever editing software they use. The way the video sometimes wobbles doesn’t look like something OIS would produce.
It might explain why the iPhone 5 comparision vid was so lousy also.
They have the same hair!
[And I have been saying for a while Elop needs a new haircut.
]
Just a new haircut wouldn’t be enough…
rofl.spot on
The video is a fake I can see a van in the background. Also I’m sure that symbian would have done better than this bathroom is because I say so.
You know that joke would only work if Nokia had not faked that ad.. now it is just stupid.
Its still funny. The poor desperate idea that the video is fake means that 920 ain’t upto par by some people in the immediate aftermath of the fake is complete FAIL.
I like Stephen Elop, he comes across as a really open guy who would answer any question. Just out of interest, and not meaning to be disrespectful, has Miriam had a sex change? Or is she a transsexual?
To be fair, he is very adept at avoiding the real question when he gives his answers. Sort of understandable as it’s probably not a good idea to let all of your ideas leak out but it’s annoying at the same time.
No she’s not a transsexual, just a really butch (& gay according to her blog IIRC) female.
I like Myriam, but I’m not watching an interview to hear her talk, I’m interested in what the interviewee has to say.
Let Elop talk! Give him all the rope to maybe leak something interesting or tell us something new.
…or to hang himself..?
*Off topic*
But Elop always looks like he is about to jump up and say Danny Crane.
Don’t get this reference?!?
here ya go (he actually meant denny crane):

Haha. I get that same feeling sometimes.
“What you will see us do is bring together in different combinations in different price points elements of this experiences (OIS, Oversampling)” So it’s just a matter of time until we see PureView Phase 3.
Right. But from what he is saying it could even be in an Asha device.
LOL!!! Why can’t you try recording this with 808 and see it quality to your 920! srew u #Elop
Excuse me, but what are you having a tantrum about now?
Banderpop , I think u may be right , I saw the920 OIS vid on Youtube and it shook rather more than this . Of course , the user was moving …
The most interesting to me was the elements of Pureview appearing in future products . I confess however that I`m not quite sure whether this means that lesser versions of the 808 will be all that Nokia produces for a while or whether there will at some point be a worthy successor to the 808 . Thoughts on this ?
OIS shakes are less perceived when the subject and film person are both moving. At least from my uses. Not sure how it would be on 920.
I’m surprised by the quality of the video. Is this really by the 920? It seems oddly too clear for an indoor video. I was only able to get this on the 808 with extremely well laid out lighting.
I think it is 920, doubt the Myriam would say so otherwise. I gather the IOS, large aperture and new algorithms combined allow for that.
Yes it is a 920, you can see it reflected behind them…
IIRC (did not watch the video again), Elop says “PV in 920 and beyond” which would imply there is clearly a possibility of something that supercedes at least the 920, and possibly the 808 too. Remember also Kevin Shields hinting that they are trying to combine PV Phase 1 and Phase 2. Perhaps the odd/fun looking render of a WP phone we saw a couple months back (with, interestingly, the WP8 logo on the center key already)?
That would be PV for high-end (the best of the best). If those renders were legit (and I’m sure there were) then I’m expecting to see a 808 successor at MWC 2013.
Engaget just couldn’t have said, ” look, our readers only need one tablet so when should they buy it?”
Not that this thing about war of ecosystems and how he supports other manufacturers in their WP efforts is something new. But I’m still amazed that Elop can publicly boast how he is proud he destroyed company (and is in process of finishing it) he directs for the benefit of his former employer and nothing happens.
Is that myriam in the pic at the top? :/ is she female?
