Lumia-920-ATT-Cyan_465

We all knew this was coming, it was only a matter of when. Just now Nokia Conversations announced that the Lumia 920 as well as the 820 will be headed to At&t This November . The Lumia 920 will arrive in yellow, red, white, black, gray and Cyan; seeing as how large of a hit the Cyan Lumia 900 was this really is no surprise. The Lumia 820 will also be available this November, surprisingly though it will only be coming in Black (at least at first) leaving the possibility for more color options later, or exclusive color to carriers?

Edit- Our good friend the General The Destroyer just pointed out that the Gray version is no longer listed (at least in the press release)- seemingly replaced by Cyan, we’ve contacted Nokia trying to get more details about this (awaiting a reply).

Lumia 920 cyan

Unlike the Lumia 900 launch there is no word on “exclusivity to At&t” which hopefully means users on Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint will get a taste of this stunning device (Exclusivity confirmed in At&t video) .

The Lumias will launch alongside the full range of accessories we saw a couple months ago, including the charging pillows and the JBL speakers:

The new Lumia phones will be joined by a plethora of accessoriessuch as the Nokia Wireless Charging Pad and Wireless Charging Stand, as well as the JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker.

The only question that remains is, “is the Cyan 920 Matte Finished?” If so sign me up for it (to replace my lost 800), or actually maybe not; I’m tempted to go back to black…. so confusing…

-The announcement page states that the 820 supports up to 32GBs of expandable storage, while our Q&A with the product manager confirmed support for 64GB Micro SD cards, we’ve also contacted the editors regarding this.

Q: Will the Lumia 820 support 64GB SD cards or is there a maximum limit set?
A:  Yes, the Lumia 820 will support 64GB microSD cards.

But again, there is no exact launch day! Why Nokia, why Microsoft? Why it is so difficult to make that os ready for launch?

    • JotosTodosLosFansNokia says:

really do not know? or are you an idiot ? is because it is a crap OS , errors are to be found and that this retracing his arrival . I remember some words that sounded the Elop said that not to continue with meego , you remember them ? not continue with MeeGo as the OS was not ready and would not have to sell terminals . how ironic

      • Mark says:

Why don’t you take a chill pill, kid? MS launch WP8 at the end of October, the phones go on sale afterwards.

Go and lie down. You’ll feel better.

      • nabkawe says:

Meego wasn’t ready, Though the pressure of proving it was made the Meego team rush it out until it ran perfectly by PR1.2 (which didn’t take long btw) the software matured so good that i no longer wanted to update it.
Still it was an OS for just one phone with less than 100000 users (I don’t know how much the N9 sold but less users means less bugs discovered)
WP8 is a bit more complicated than Meego.
Seeing how it has so many things to worry about

*Security: WP8 is set to be a secure phone for business this means no bugs no loose ends.

*Compatibility: Like it or not WP8 will visit a host of different phones that have different specs which again will have to be compatible in some ways with Windows8,Windows8RT and Xbox.
This compatibility should be perfect in order for users no to give up on it. (It helps microsoft sell more products if it proved useful , Just like how Apple sold more ipads because of the Itunes compatibility with Iphones.

*WP7 Ecosystem: one of the main reasons WP8 isn’t being rushed and MS isn’t giving the SKDs for anyone is… WP7 Apps if you got SDKs for WP8 you won’t really want to develop for the old Ecosystem since there’s no backward compatibility WP7 Phones are screwed.
I think MS Should reward apps that support both WP7 and WP8 by a higher profit margin.

    • noki says:

Rumors say the WP8 is still filled with bugs and they are trying to fix them on the clock.
As some one working on software development I wish them all the luck, its not a comfortable place to be.

      • Mark says:

Yeah? Want to point me to the source of these rumours?

Or are you just talking out of your arse as usual?

        • Doffen says:

If there was no bugs in the OS it would have been released already. All software have some bugs. Thats just the nature of the beast. The interesting thing is which new features WP 8 will bring. Resizable tiles is not doing it for me…

          • Mark says:

Which is quite different from publicly stating a release date and working towards it as opposed to working round the clock desperately.

But then noki knows this and is just doing his usual passive agressive trolling.

New Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone is exclusive to AT&T

    source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGDyxYsiRE4

    • Webby says:

      Exclusivity is just out-right stupidity.

If they do this in Europe, I shall be very upset.

      • lmiked says:

Come on! They CAN’T do that in Europe! Cause each country in Europe has its own carriers! Now some carriers in some countries may try to get exclusivity on one of the devices… Doubt it though, cause you can always get an unlocked version of the phone in a Nokia store or in an online auction site or mobile phone website!!!
        So don’t worry ;) !!!

        Cheers!!!

  3. noki says:

” The AT&T release states that the Lumia 920 is “exclusive to [AT&T] customers,”"

    • Aniya says:

I can’t understand an operating system that is just hovering between potential and death, constantly hovering around the 1% mark, and now your brilliant decision is to limit supply by picking an exclusive carrier in the US.

You know, I want to support Nokia’s dicisions but you’re making it really hard for most people to keep supporting you when you mess up release after release. If WP is holding release dates back then switch to another OS, you are getting 0 traction in the market like this.

      • JotosTodosLosFansNokia says:

Do you think Elop would not want that? the problem is that the telephone companies do not believe in nokia, lumia, wp, and least Elop the fagg. lumias failed with 800 and 900 is not profitable for them

        • Mark says:

Sure. The 900 failed so badly with AT&T that they signed up to an exclusive for the 920.

You’re not the smartest, are you?

      • joyride says:

AT&T was probably only interested in an exclusive deal and wouldn’t have wanted the handset otherwise. Unlike the iphone and SIII there’s not that big a market for ANY Windows Phone. If the same model was offered across many carriers then it just makes the potential sales for AT&T all that much lower.

      • lmiked says:

Being exclusive, isn’t a bad thing! Like, AT&T pays dearly to Nokia to get exclusivity, like millions and millions, just like they paid Apple years after years to get the iPhone exclusively! It wasn’t until iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 (if I’m not mistaken) came out that Verizon finally got the iPhone on their network (probably had to pay dearly to Apple as well for them to let exclusivity go from AT&T), I was still in the U.S. at that time (I was there for 3 years), and I still remember the Verizon commercial, “the phone that changed it all (iphone), now also available on Verizon, the fastest, most reliable 4G network”.
Plus, AT&T has the largest customers base in U.S. 180 million or more customers, so if an ok percentage of those customers buy the Lumia 920, thats a few million phones right there, and I’m pretty sure Lumia 920 will be a success cause it is clearly the best smartphone available in the market right now, with features many other phones just don’t have, and no APP can be an alternative for those features(like OIS, amazing low light pics, puremotion HD+, the most sensitive screen, brightest too, Maps, Drive, Nokia music with free music download, City lens), and I don’t even like WP, and still feel and think the L920 is the best smartphone available, and I want it, so that’s saying something.
And just like someone else pointed out, the iPhone got a lot of popularity for being exclusive, and AT&T really advertised it well, so if they do the same (good advertising) with the L920, it’s fail proof IMO.
Also probably, verizon and other carriers will get a 922c** variation with CDMA, or some other device like the Lumia 510 or something… If not, there are always alternatives like buying an unlocked phone on Ebay or some mobile website retailer, and shove your SIM card in it and enjoy ( except for verizon which uses CDMA, their clients will suck it :p)…
Anyway, people from T-Mobile and other networks who really want the phone, will get it online somehow and just SWAP SIMS, when I was in U.S., I didn’t like any of the phones any of the carriers had available, also, I didn’t want a contract, so I bought an N8 I found on craigslist, stuck a SIMPLE MOBILE SIM card in there, and rolled like a KING, 60$ a month had unlimited US calls, unlimited international SMS, and unlimited internet traffic (for VOIP :D ).
Also, don’t forget that for AT&T to get exclusivity, they always must buy a minimum amount of devices, otherwise, no manufacturer would agree to give exclusivity, they would just rather have all the carriers pick it up, and let sales be arbitrary. Another good thing about a carrier exclusivity, is also as I mentioned, a LOT of advertising for that product, cause since the carrier is the only one to sell it, they are gonna “BRAG” about it in every commercial of theirs, and, as mentioned before, AT&T is the largest carrier in U.S., which means millions of people will be paying attention to their commercials, not only their customers.
So obviously, if it was a bad deal for Nokia, they wouldn’t take.
Feel free to disagree… it’s just opinions… We’ll know what really happens in a couple of months!!

        cheers!!!

        • noki says:

so first Nokia will get “millions and millions” for being exclusive and then they will, “get a 922c** variation with CDMA” heheh yeah sure, that’s exactly how it works… You know because carriers are little dumb kiddies that love to throw away money…

    • Abhay says:

It may mean Verizon has 922, TMobile has 923 etc…

  4. rudy says:

    Guess no T-Mobile version.

Smart way gaining marketshare by being exclusive. Why would Nokia want verizon or T-Mobile to sell the 920.

    • noki says:

hehehehe yes less is more, right? I’m sure it is.

    • Pökö says:

I don’t think the exclusivisity means less sales. If sales really pick up, I think Nokia has hard time to supply phone for even AT&T.

Important would be that we don’t see any out of stock signs on stores, or if we see, the next batch will come within days, not weeks like last time.

And Lumia 820 is available for other carriers so there is still something Nokia to choose from.

      • noki says:

Ok you have to pick one argument not bowth of them its cant be good that Nokia is exclusive and good that nokia is not exclusive. And lets be honest we all know that Nokia least problem is over demand for Llumias :)

        • Bloob says:

Exclusive is good if the 920 gets a heavy push from AT&T, not exclusive is better if there is widespread demand.

        • KeiZka says:

Have to point out that Nokia USA website is saying only “820 from AT&T” now instead of “820 exclusively from AT&T” as it said before.

Still, I’d rather see 920 on all bigger carriers.

  5. M says:

Even Nokia’s 920 page says exclusive to att.

    http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia920/

  6. mushfiq says:

I want gloss cyan , pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Nokia.

  7. Dave² says:

I believe Nokia is doing something similar to what Apple did with the iPhone in being exclusive to AT&T.
They are still trying to build that brand name and with the exclusivity people will want the phone even more, so when it does come to other carriers they will flock to it.

That, or AT&T gets the GSM model, Lumia 920, while Verizon gets a CDMA model like a 922 or the likes.

    • noki says:

if it is that then its even more dumb, wen the iphone came it was “the phone” in the US it was the “revolutionary” paradigm change that all fanboys were waiting for people were willing to change country to get it let alone carriers, the L920 is no ware near that, it might be slightly better in some aspects but overall nothing more than marginally better.
People in contracts with other providers will not switch carriers to get a slightly better phone.

On top of that Nokia as no time to create a brand now, that time is long gone NOKIA needs to sell tens of MILIONS of phones now to stop the money bleeding hemorrhage.

Face it nokia is going on this exclusive deals because carriers are not that interested in shipping and promoting more NOKIAS specially after many got burned by the symbian and wp7 Osborn effects

      • viktor von d. says:

if they keep the exclusivity to at&t then they won’t sell more devices than the 900. it was number 2 on the network for some months but that’s it. it can’t sell millions of lumias 920 in the u.s. they could have gone at least with verizon too.that would have made sells. who knows what is actually happening with these deals, how they get worked out.i hope the 820 gets wider distributioj

  8. Muerte says:

I simply hate these carrier exclusives. Less sales is always a good strategy? I don’t get it. If HTC is able to push their devices to every carrier, why the hell is Nokia using only the once-tested-and-failed AT&T. Good luck, but I think Nokia needs more at this point.

  9. Janne says:

Carrier exclusivity certainly is a double-edged sword. As I understand it, Nokia may be trying more of it in Europe this time around too. They have their reasons (they clearly think it helps on the retail level), but that doesn’t mean I like it. I never liked it – and still don’t.

As for Verizon, I wouldn’t write them off yet. For all we know, some 921C variant is heading their way. But perhaps just the 822 and a PureView monster come spring. That would be unfortunate for holiday season, though.

I reserve full judgement until we see how it all unfolds, but so far I’m not liking the exclusive dealings. Let’s chat the big picture after Q4, I guess.

  10. Mace says:

Well, just remember that iPhone started with combination of zero marketshare and carrier exclusivity. And if I remember right, it did pretty well.

  11. Bob says:

I have a sinking feeling this decision is the end of Nokia in North America.

There is enormous demand and interest from non ATT users who will be really losses.

Many of those sales will just be handed to HTC 8x on a platter. (In hindsight maybe HTC expected exclusivity and made a clone for all other networks to sweep up the lost sales?).

  12. misterstockwell says:

To add to the flood of Nokia stupidity, their website now says that the 820 is also an ATT exclusive. I once thought they could succeed, but now fear they are doomed. That is the stupidest move I have ever seen from a manufacturer.

  13. stylinred says:

would rather they cut white or black out and keep grey

  14. Bob says:

Why limit US sales to only 20% of the US market?????

    This is pure craziness.

And that 20% is mixed with HTC 8x, Samsung, iPhone (ATT).

Nokia have just CAPPED their sales to a maximum 600,000.

    This makes no sense.

If HTC can get their 8x on all major carriers why can’t Nokia? The inferior 8x will outsell the 920 purely due to availability. Lost sales is never a smart move!

    Crazy.
