    Finally!!!

  2. rusyknight17 says:

    Except , of course , for the N9 and the 808 …

    • Peter L says:

N9 had exactly the same kind of countdown and a campaign in Finland. Not sure if 808 did, but shut up nevertheless.

      • rusyknight17 says:

U referring to me ? Not sure what u r referring to in ur comment , but I was referring to the claim that the 920 is the most innovative smartphone ever .

        • viktor von d. says:

the 920 is the most innovative phone. wireless tech,hd plus screen, supersensitive touch, improved clear black, puremotion 60hz refresh rate screen, pureview camera with optical stabilization and excellent low light performance, world leading maps and augumented reality, integration with the largest ecosystem on the planet and shared kernel with the largest operating system on the planet, innovative ui, excellent design

the n9 had excellent design, fresh ui,and cool multitasking
the 808 has the world’s best phone camera. both of them good phones, but hte 920 beats them on all counts except the multitasking on the n9 and oversampling technology in the 808

          • AreOut says:

excellent design being most innovative it seems…(OK together with sensitive touch which really is useful but only in certain countries and in certain months)

            • Viipottaja says:

wah? I mean come on. we all know WP is not for everyone. that is fine. :) (apologies if my guess on your views on WP) but you don’t think the PV IOS camera is not innovative? really?

              • AreOut says:

not at all, mechanical stabilisation exists for years, just the matter of size&weight

so it would be innovative but only if phone didn’t weigh 185g, probably being the heaviest phone(not counting phonetablets etc.) on the market

it would be the same like mounting compact camera on it (like Samsung did with its device) and calling it innovative

          • rustyknight17 says:

Never said the 920`s not innovative or that it`s not a good phone , it is but the most innovative phone in rthe world ? Not quite …
Taking wireless charging first , the HP Pre had that back in 2011 . Oops ..
Yes the 920 has a great screen , but the One X and Xperia S can match its resolution . And , if memory serves , the Xperia S also is very sensitive , though the 920`s screen is better tuned …
Maps and augmented reality r shared by all Nokia phones , though u do have to download them separately .
And yes the WP8 kernel is the same as the w8 kernel , not sure how that that makes the 920 innovative though …
The largest ecosystem ? I`d say Apple and Android both have larger ecosystems than WP . For that matter , Symbian is a tad larger.
Now for Pureview . The 920 has OIS , which is great , but it`s making up for the 8.7 mp sensor . The 920 also has superior low light performance in auto mode , but this is because the 920 in auto mode in low light is programmed for longer exposures , while its rivals r not , one has to go into night mode with them to get equivalent resuls . indeed ,as Dinning himself said it on Twitter , in auto mode in low light and handheld the 920 beats the 808 because of OIS and brighter pics . If both r supported , the 808 wins because of oversampling . Brighter pics , as Dinning commented , means longer exposures IN AUTO mode .
The N9 has a great design , which the 920 is based on !And the Swipe UI is much more innovative and intuitive . ; WP8 only brings resizable tiles and a few other minor improvements AIUI .
lAST , THE 808 brings a MUCH superior cam , in most circumstances , plus micro SD slot and a removable battery , not to forget that Nokia Belle FP1 is functionally superior .
Again , don`t get me wrong , the Lumia 920 is a great , and even innovative , smartphone , but not the most innovative or as game changer , but it is almost enough to make me go WP . If the 10 series Lumias ( 1003 , 1110 , and 1200 ) r as awesome as they r rumoured to be , they might do the trick . Hope so !

            • viktor von d. says:

it’s not just about the resolution.it’s aboiut those killer refresh rates, and even tough you think it’s not important, for a lot of people it will be.

and when i say largest ecosystem i don’t mean app eocsystem. i mean windows-xbox-wphone-bing-outlook-live-skype-linkedin-outlook-office-xboxmusic now-skydrive.
apple has for example mac os x-ios-itunes-icloud
google has android-gmail-google search-other online services and that’s about it.
so windows/microsoft have the largest ecosystem in the world and the largest userbase, and now that w8,wp8and soon x box will share the same kernel it will have the largest developer base.

and new nokia phones also have removable battery and sd card suport and mass storage mode, and bluetooth and nfc suport.anyways a comparison between the platforms is pointless at this point.the point is that the 920 has a lot of things that are frist done by anybody on a mobile phone. 60hz screen already exist-on desktop monitors.ois already exists-on dedicated cameras, supersensitive screen-first time implemented.the low light performance, no matter how hard you try to ignore it, the fact is that no other smartphone in the market has it and it’s a breakthrough

              • Francis says:

Let see in next two quarters sale result whether buyer will agree with you.

But what i’m very sure is iph5 will MUCH better sale than total WP8 combined, even it is ‘lower tech’ than Lumia 920.

              • rustyknight17 says:

Refresh rates u proably have a point about ; can`t reakky comment because I don`t know what the normal refresh rate is for smartphone screens . And where did I say this was unimportant ?
Yes , when u put it that way , I suppose WP8 DOES have the largest ecosystem ! Good idea too , if MS can actually make it work … BUT that`s not what most people mean by mobile OS ecosystem !
Hate to break it to u Viktor but quite a few new Nokia phones have neither a removable battery nor a sd card slot ; the 920 has neither , a curious omission IMHO . The 920 has SOME things that were done first on it , but I`m talking about smartphones here , not desktops and dedicated cameras , those are different genres entirely and not relevant here .
The 920 is a great phone and certainly ahead of its rivals , except , of course , for the N9 and the 808 and possibly the One X , Sgs III, Xperia S & T , the Razr Maxx and the N8 … Which is why i find it hard to understand why Nokia `s being deceptive about this , especially when they`ve already gotten in trouble over this . I get that Nokia`s in dire straits ( Mostly due to Elop`s and the Nokia Board`s stupidity ) and that WP8 is do or die for Nokia . But the 920 is perfectly capable of standing on it`s own merits . Why not emphasise it`s` strengths and then get one or more of the 10 series Lumias ( e.g. the 1003 , 1110 , 1200 ) , which r reputed to be truly awesome , out and then have a true game changer ? Thoughts on this ?

          • Tom says:

smartphone beta test? Looking back I can clearly see Lumia 900 the beta product.

        • Mark says:

Yeah, that’s why he was telling you to shut up.

          • rustyknight17 says:

ERm , I may be wrong here but I think Peter was referring to the countdown and marketing campaign , whereas I was referring to the clauim that the 920 is the most innovatine phne of all time , which are 2 different subjects . i also refer u to my reply to Viktor above .

  3. arts says:

would be available then? or its on the 21 of nov?

  4. rusyknight17 says:

Oh and the HP pre lol

  5. MeeDroid says:

The only thing going for Nokia now is its PureView technology. Windows Phone sucks. The public doesn’t like Windows Phone as evidenced by Nokia sales results.

    • Jay Montano says:

      Actually no.

I don’t think it’s so simple to equate sales to how well people like something.

For you, the only thing going for Nokia right now might be PureView. I suggest you move on and wait for the BlackBerry 10 device.

    • anonymous says:

im not a fan of wp most especially during the wp7.5, i really dont like the design and the lack of standard features of todays smartphone and again i dont like their tiles (wp7.5). but hey look at wp8 they at least improved a lot. the reason why wp7.5 sales are very low its because of nokia is in the transition period (coming from symbian), because of the effort of google, and people are not just ready for the live tiles at that time, but now that wp8 has arrived and nokia has now the capability to customize more the OS especially about the pureview (the important is the innovations thats making noise in the smartphone environment) with more extensive effort of advertisement coming from microsoft and nokia (also with other manufacturers) and the lack of innovation of the iphone5, i think wp and nokia will do good this time, with the increase on their sales when their products launches… thats what im seeing, basing on my observation…

  6. aahutosh kaushal says:

    when in india?

  7. Dave says:

That’s 3 am on november 2nd in Finland (if I did my DST calculations correctly :)

    Funny time for anything.

  8. Husfus says:

I asked a nokia rep. about l920 availability here in Bangladesh. . .and he was like first heard the name and started showing me a lumia 900 instead . .what a jerk!

  9. Dave² says:

The Lumia ad playing in the background.

  10. JGrove303 says:

As far as I’m concerned, Live Tile are an evolution upon S^3′s shortcuts and widgets. There is no loss fot me on that front, as S^3′s boxy widgets were live, too.

I have no use for more than 3 screens myself. I’ve filled my screens corner to corner and it was ,uch more practical selecting gtom a menu list.

I’ve only isrf WP7.5 for 30 minutrs at ,ost and found it great. With the promise of WP8 covering the missing features, I’m foaming at the mouth to get my Lumia 920

Jay, would you like an unboxing video whem mine comes in and a hands on?

  11. JGrove303 says:

    SOLD!!

“So Stephen, how’s that dump Symbian/Meego, go Windows move working out for you?”
    Very discouraging numbers.

  13. Francis says:

Nokia is in blood bath now to defend their WP strategy, if this 920 or WP series can’t get reasonable good sale than i’m not sure what else Nokia needs to do to save their Smartphone sector ? Write completely New smartphone OS ??

Many blogs or news writers, whether they been paid or not, are gearing up their weapons to push for Microsoft WP8 survivor, inline with broad launch of Windows 8 series product – Metro UI across the board.

This is Microsoft’s Eco system and long term strategy, and Nokia will be one of key hardware manufacturer which fully depends on MS to survive for their Smartphone business.

For the sake of Microsoft, Lumia series phone MUCH success, or else Microsoft will sank (due to lost of Eco system, which resultant from, may be lower Desktop sale – shift toward Pad), and will pull down Nokia altogether too.

If Nokia Lumia fail this time, i would suggest Microsoft to buy over Nokia, and put full afford to develop the complete seamless Microsoft Series of smartphone product. All of us will be united toward uni-direction and no more argument, WP or MS Eco system will be in better change of being successful.

This is exactly Apple’s style of Eco System, and been hugely successful with large and royal groups of customer.

    • dss says:

      Microsoft’s WP is safe ..

As far as Nokia.. if it doesn’t work out, Microsoft can buy the smartphone division for cheap, and they can go back to making.. asha’s and winter tires.

      • JGrove303 says:

Dininning & Co. could head a new branch of Nokia dedicated cameras, run on MeeGo and have all the same connectivity and features the 808 has, sans voive calling.
