i was hoping my dad would take a shine to Tiles with Windows 8 so i could get him a 920 and by doing so being able to play with the camera

but he doesn’t even want windows 8 installed on his computer lol sigh

    • dss says:

windows 8 is actually very good in desktop mode. The new start screen also works well, but its way better on a touch panel. I tried one at best buy (Lenovo yoga) the other day.. windows 8 feels like a next generation computing device next to macOS and Win 7

      • stylinred says:

yes i have it on my own laptop (purchased it for $14) Im not a fan of the new start screen actually but most my time, so far, has been on the desktop so Im fine with that

    • Jay Montano says:

I don’t want W8 on my computer either. Not my main one. I don’t trust my Acer to cope and I don’t want to have to reinstall my software that i no longer have discs for (or they may be all the way back in Wales).

But if the install would be stress free, maintain my content and apps, I’d do it. Not sure how mouse friendly it would be though. I’d possibly be in the traditional mode 90% of the time.

      • dss says:

The win 8 kernel is actually better optimized, so if you have 7 on the Acer now, it would run better on 8 :)

If you go trough the update process, you don’t have to install/reinstall anything.. everything stays the same. I did it last night..

It is mouse friendly.. it works exactly the same way in desktop mode + all the good stuff from the new tablet mode (start screen)

        • Jay Montano says:

I don’t doubt that W8 would work better than W7. It’s just than my Acer is a dreadful product that loves to die because Acer does not understand high end products.

          • @rollindadice says:

i have #windows8 installed on my acer aspire 5552-3557 and it’s working great, no worries

          • Marcelo says:

            Don’t worry Jay!
I have a crappy Acer Aspire 4332 from 4 years ago, and W8 booted in 22 seconds. You won’t believe how well it works.
No even drivers or devices incompatibilities.

      • stylinred says:

I installed Win8 on my Vaio

you actually dont have to do anything other than a couple of clicks

before you buy microsoft will scan your computer and inform you if any programs aren’t compatible other than that you don’t have to reinstall anything Win8 keeps your apps and settings intact

(the installer told me the only app i had that wasn’t compatible was Kaspersky all i had to do was update it and it was fine)

      • Rupesh says:

Hey it is very mouse friendly IMO !! I had the same doubt but after using it for some days, i never to go the traditional desktop mode. Trust me give it a try !!

      • A-S-D says:

If its W7, all software and programs will be kept as long as you choose to do so (I believe thats the default).

From what I’ve heard, like W8 itself, the install process is more consumer-friendly (with less tweaking options) and really straight forward.

Just in case, I would backup all my files to an external/portable hard drive as I’m currently doing (upgrading on Friday after my exams finish). I bought the upgrade pack on preorder though so I’ve already got it ready to go.

I do understand the Acer-specific concern. Thats why I’m so wary of buying the Acer W510. I have heard that fortunately their recent products are far better than their older products quality-wise but unfortunately that doesn’t help you.

        • A-S-D says:

          LOL

Didn’t realise how long I’d had the tab open…

Also, install Start8, it gives you all your W7 start menu functionality with the speed improvements of W8. $5 but free 30-day trial by which time something free may pop-up.

OIS is way more effective for video than it is for stills.. at least as far as I can see from all the vid/pics samples so far.

It is impressive .. bravo Nokia!

  3. Husfus says:

When will they put that introducing lumia 920 video on TV? People really gonna love the ad specially the song

  4. Simo says:

Tweeted (@hasasimo) that the rumored dates were too early, and that it would be later than Nov. 4 way back on Sept. 7… My following is too small for it to have made any news though apparently lol

  5. JGrove303 says:

What a pissoff! Rspecially since the last date I read was Nov. 2nd. That’s when the Sony Xperia TL is lainch on AT&T as well.
