Video: How we create maps for your Nokia Lumia – Nokia US

| November 28, 2012 | 7 Replies

Nokia shows the behind the scenes work on creating their Maps. Highly accurate maps recognising the signage, buildings which is said will represent a 3D world in the future. You’ll also see the Verizon Nokia Lumia 822 with Nokia’s maps. I miss the name Nokia maps already.

We drive drive millions of roadways each year, using specially equipped vehicles like this one to collect and verify location data.

The vehicle is equipped with lasers able to capture 1.3 million 3D digital data points every second, which generates a virtual 3D model of the world around the vehicle.

I’d quit my desk job to drive one of this cars ๐Ÿ˜€ I just love driving on every single street.

Problem is I don’t have a sense of direction and I’d get lost without Nokia Drive, so not sure how that’ll be possible for me…

That’d be a bit like the chicken & egg dilemma. You are creating Nokia Drive but you need the Nokia Drive to know where you are going ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, to look at it on the bright side, at least you get to map lots of roads that way. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay then use Apple’s map while you are driving this thing………. ๐Ÿ™‚

How about a story, “How do we create apps for your Apple iPhone?”

      or how about this story,
“How we collect data from your Apple iPhone”

thats what has happened with ‘here’ maps, it is now a trojan horse in battle of data gathering.

  • I wonder, can anyone tell me if HEREMAPS data will be sourced and properly distributed to all of Nokia’s mapping services at once?!

Ovi Maps, Nokia Maps on Symbian, Harmattan and Heremaps on WPX?

It’d be really awkward if Nokia stopped supporting map updates to their legacy devices.

It’s been a long while since the last update. Usually it was a three month cycle! What happened to that?
