Earlier today we reported that a new update was available for something called “Nokia Accessories”; at the time we had no idea what it actually did. But apparently the latest update brings the much loved and wanted feature of sleeping screens to Windows Phone. For those who haven’t used a S^3 device or an N9, when the device is in standby mode (screen locked) it goes to a low brightness mode showing the time and date, plus some minor details such as alarms or calendar events.

With the latest update once you dock your Lumia on one of the NFC capable accessories (the NFC charging dock and possibly the JBL PowerUp) the screen above will show. Giving you the weather, time, and upcoming calendar events at a glance.

All I can say is thank you Nokia for listening to our wishes, I know a lot of people have been begging for this feature (yours truly included); so it’s great to see it come to; even though it does require an additional accessory to use, we’ll take it.

Edit: It seems you can change the brightness of the screen by swiping up or down, pretty cool!

Thanks for the tip Janne

Had my charger stand yesterday but the screen only shows the clock even if the settings are on “show metro & calendar”. Anyone knows how to show them? Thanks!

      “show weather & calendar” sorry…

Seeing a half-baked feature like this is so disappointing. Does Symbian still have more apps than WP after how many years now????

Guys, I miss my N8. I have a Lumia 800 – which is great. But I miss that small notification of missed calls/ SMS on the sleep screen (get info without any touch or button), at least at the Lumia 820 with Amoled they could add it (or allow an app to do the job). That would be a reason to stop crying about my N8 – I would buy a 820 right now.
