HERE Maps Data Overhaul for WP8; Brings Multiple Improvements

| June 20, 2013 | 16 Replies

Here DriveThe HERE maps mapping database has just received another hefty overhauling bringing more roads, buildings and traffic to your phone, the update brings:

  •  Better map coverage for Tunisia, Senegal and Cyprus
  • 1.86 million building outlines in Croatia
  • Public transit for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (would HERE Transit work there now?)
  • Trucking routes and other changes

You can update your maps by going to settings > applications > maps > check for updates.

*Note: These updates are promised to come to Symbian in the following months, so everyone wins!

Any news on HERE drive+, when it will be available for non premium Lumias and how much it could cost?

    • DesR85

Maybe they will probably introduce it once HERE Drive+ exits beta?

Not sure about the cost, though…

awesome that its coming for symbian but i had thought/hoped that it would be automatic for symbian (thought they shared the same database)

Not sure if they share the same database, but it seems like they may not.

Symbian doesn’t run HERE Maps. Now technically HERE is basically a re-brand of Nokia Maps, but they’ve been adding new features over the past few months to HERE Maps which Symbian Maps doesn’t have, features like LiveSight.

With that in mind, I think some of the HERE data, especially some of the unique data like the imaging data required for Livesight exists in a separate database from the Symbian Nokia Maps database.

Also a few countries have gotten much more accurate in HERE Maps in the past few months, and they added countries that previously weren’t mapped by Navteq like Serbia and Israel. I’m not sure on this one, but has Nokia added Serbia and Israel maps for Symbian devices? If not then that’s proof it’s two different databases for Symbian and HERE/Windows Phone.

yep, both countries are available on my 808 map loader.

Ah, so it still may be the same database, minus the added data of HERE like Livesight image data. Or, it could be two different databases, that they then share and update information between the two.

Same database for the maps for WP, Symbian and MeeGo/Harmattan (at least till now).

Still no traffic on Here Maps 😞

    • Viipottaja

Indeed. but, One would hope it does not come as a map data update. :P

    • nabkawe

I get traffic on here maps by pressing the layers button, did u mean no traffic in Here Drive?
