Market of growers not showers; Nokia toying around with foldable phones again? What about just 7 inch phones?

Foldable Nokias. For those that have been long time Nokia fans this would be familiar news to you as it was something that was initially a concept that kept coming up in patent applications.

Nokia Morph is the most famous of these concepts and the likes of Lenovo have brought some of those things to life. According to PhoneArena, there’s some interest again from the Nokia camp regarding this area of tech. Similarly, today also sees posts  on TheVerge that Microsoft have similar intentions. Samsung of course has been rumoured to be bringing such foldable phone/tablet this year. Could it be an actual device or just proof of concept? Would you even want one?

Think about a smaller 4.5/5 inch device but it opens up to a 9 incher (or whatever depending on screen ratio, number of folds and whatnot). If it could be as good as a phone, and continue the slowly growing trend of having a big-ass battery then why not? The worst thing would be that these would be dreadful phones and even worse tablets that just cost too much.

I’m happily rocking 7 inches in the X2 and would love to have that as my main and only phone if it had a better camera and NFC. There are times I wish that it would be useful if it was smaller but the benefits of a larger handset has so much win for me. So alternatively, someone could just push the mega phablet market :p No need for awkward folding.

A slim 7 inch phone with minimal bezels can:

  • Still fit comfortably in a pocket
  • Have a big enough battery to have the stamina of a marathon runner.
  • Be your all in one phone/tablet. No need to have two things. No need for folding.
  • Bigger screen is greater for reading/watching/gaming/sat nav/browsing/creating things.
  • Would be an even better ‘note’ style phone as you actually have the screen size to do more things like jotting notes without having to constantly pan around.

The 5.5″ iPhone isn’t that big now that most are getting used to that size. Xiomi’s Mi Mix with 6.4″ screen is roughly almost the same size!

Let’s make this happen, eh? 😛
