Waterproof nano coating for future Nokia phones?
Apparently, Nokia will be making future phones/Lumias waterproof. Â Well that’s what’s going around the blogosphere now anyway. What the actual quote was:
Nano technology lets us do it. Superhydrophobic technology makes water bounce, it stops it, rolls it off the device and leaves it water impregnant, that’s the magic, that’s what we’re going to bring to the party
Odd. It seems to be pretty much what Nokia said before at Nokia World what the intentions of this technology was. Furthermore this was one of several things Stephen Elop had been hinting at. Elop said he saw amazing technology in Nokia’s labs that he was going to make sure make it to market instead of staying amazing behind closed doors. He hinted at the 808 PureView, remember? He said that amazing as the N8 is, it was a mere fraction of what Nokia could do in the labs – and boy, did Nokia bring out some magic from the labs with the 808. Elop also mentioned about a phone that had a coating which could be submerged in water and is waterproof.
We don’t know how long it will be for Nokia to bring this to market. Nokia has previously demoed a part of this technology in the Nokia 700 – water droplets bouncing off the display. However, full submersion has not been shown publicly yet.
Cheers steelicon for the tip
