Motorola Calling Out Nokia, Holding Even on Sept. 5th; Calling it “Day’s Main Event”

| August 17, 2012 | 48 Replies

It would seem the gloves are off, when it comes to Mobile OEMs competing against each other, first we had Chris Weber calling out Samsung to watch their backs. Now it seems Motorola have jumped in, attempting to steal some of Nokia’s thunder by holding an event the very same day the new Modified Nokia World is going down (Sept. 5th); with the invite claiming to be “the day’s main event”. I can’t seem to find the article but I recall either Samsung or HTC doing something similar a year or two ago (I think it was the launch of the Galaxy Nexus); regardless I hope Nokia have something in stock that will blow their minds. And more importantly I hope Elop or whoever is taking the stage is polishing up their speaking skills, I still haven’t forgotten NOT mentioning 1080p recording in the 808s launch.

To get a better idea ofwhat to expect at Nokia’s event check out some of the leaks that have trickled out over the last couple of weeks-

Hopefully we can expect something to satisfy all needs and cravings, from Pureview to Phablets (dare to dream of the two together?). Also note that the Motorola event is being shared by Verizon, can we expect a Verizon branded phone to be released by Nokia the same day?
P.S.- Motorola event is expected to be for the Droid Razr HD

Of all the dates. Seems like an Android thing to do. They’ve been trying to do it every year.

      Google(Android) -> Motorola
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
I think we are at 3rd phase. :)

    • M says:

Its becoming a trademark of Motorola. They tried to one up the Galaxy Nexus by releasing the Razr the same day. Its an insecure move by an insecure company. Still remember when HTC did it during Nokia World couple years ago in the same city (London).

    • A-S-D says:

Yep, it was HTC last time using buses to take people away.

      • Jay Montano says:

Yup. There were rumours that the Samsung event would also be on Nokia World 2011 but that changed/was just rumour.

      • Kaizer Allen says:

Now they are riding their own buses, back to Taiwan. Their market share is dwindling.

        • poiman says:

Yes, unfortunatly that’s true. HTC has some great phones, namely the HTC One X. It has great specs and a beautiful design. The cons are some little problems with the materials that build the phone, but those can be easily solved, and being android. Hopefully they will release a WP8 version of the phone and that’s good because it will force Nokia to make even better Windows Phones if they want to be the best OEM supporting the OS.

      • shallow ocean shoal says:

        Speaking of buses.

Google through HTC under the bus!

  2. nabkawe says:

It was HTC who did that last year . It even provided buses right in front of Nokia’s event directly to their event.
It’s because of that stupid act that Stephen Elop might have thought of poking the bear (HTC’s Cameras)

  3. Dave says:

You’re remembering HTC in London putting busses outside of Nokiaworld offering free transportation to their event, and the Google-cock sucking techblogs (you know, adsense income) twisting that into NOKIA being the bad guy when they handed out free lunch to those taking the bus. (HamTomatoCheese sandwiches :)

So Motorola, it’s one thing to be cheeky, it’s another to be a big ass loser. Suck my balls and die soon. (Of course, it’s just Google hiding behind Motorola)

  4. Faisal Baset says:

If only Elop nurtured Meego and combined Pureview technology with it..nothing else could come even closer to Nokia..if only :(

    • jr says:

When are you fools going to stop this stupidity? what has Elop got to do with Motorola launching a device?

      • deep space bar says:

        what fools…..Meego had a chance people wanted it….elop didn’t…cause he’s an ex M$ employee…..and it’s a US company….
        now that Meego is dead

all three powers ONLY come from the US and DOMINATE the world…..Apple,Google and Microsoft….think about it for a second why the US doesn’t want any foreign companies to be the lead in Mobile technology using their own OS……..hmmmmmm

and this is where Jolla Comes in…since Nokia is Dead pretty much surrendering to the US ..Jolla is pure and all Finish like Nokia was and is suppose to be

        • mee-gone says:

Stop dreaming about jolla, jolla is vaporware and yes US does dominate the world!!

          • ashok pai says:

with so much spent on windows phone, wp platform itself is pretty much vaporware. 4 million after spending millions and millions is not good. meego had a decent shot, but for elop.

        • poiman says:

So you finally reveal yourself… afterall you aren’t agains WP8 or even Microsoft… you are just agains everything that comes from the USA. Plain stupid, I must say.

          • outdated os says:

Not sure how you arrived on a sweeping conclusion but

microsoft has a history of performing underhanded moves both on its partners and especially its competitors.

USA with its silly patent systems, technologically ignorant politicians, and an over reaching authority which enables them to barge in on homes as far as new zealand. Hmmm.

  5. twig says:

Moto has cut 20% of its staff as of late and the online tech sites now wonder what Google should do with Moto now they have the patents.

  6. jr says:

I doubt Motorola knew anything about Nokia’s event.. unless you think Motorola secured a place , made invites all within a day just because Nokia is having an event. This is pure coincidence.

  7. J R says:

Why go after Nokia? Just go for broke and hold an event on September 12th! hahahahaaa

    • Jay Montano says:

Haha. They would definitely get some attention. Maybe 1%. Considering how much love Apple gets in the media, that 1% would probably bigger than they would get on their own or trying to latch on with Nokia.

  8. JGrove says:

So, the OEM that scary close to copying the X7-00′s designs wants to throw down?

I say, “Bring it on, BITCH! Big Fin N is gonna stomp a mudhole in your talentless sellout ass!”

That’s probably a bit extreme, but considering what GEMs have done in the past…

  9. The Wizard of Huz says:

Neonode was the first to pull this kind of thing. When they were launching their first phone Nenode N1 with swipe gestures interface, (yes yes, way before Meego, iOS, webOS and Android) they picked journalists coming out of the Ericsson building up in busses after a press event. No one ever heard of Neonode before. They just said that they had something interesting to show and invited them to come and see.

  10. Keith too says:

Moto devices have all been underwhelming and they are getting their ass kicked by Samsung so if the Nokia/Microsoft event is about showing some new hardware it will overshadow Moto’s mediocre offerings and make them look silly in the process.

  11. SLAYER says:

I find this sad, desperate and pathetic… you can’t describe this using positive words even if you were an android/moto fan

  12. dss says:

Nokia better have something.. if all the hype goes flat, no good. The only thing is pureview tho, we all know the hardware specs from Microsoft, so there won’t be any “wow” there… maybe new materials ? I dunno. They need something.

  13. shallow ocean shoal says:

I thought I posted this but maybe my punctuation threw it into mod land

Nokia– Direct shout-out to Samsung via the tweet, signifying a challenge and Respect.

Google hiding behind Motorola– a backhanded, arrogant, slap in the face.

  14. manu says:

nokia better have something good up their sleeves.

  15. spacemodel says:

I hope Nokia will show no new phone september the 5th at all.
What’s the use of showing your new topmodel one week before the new iPhone is presented, with the knowledge that this phone won’t be in the stores before october?
Better wait till october when the iPhone storm is over and then present the new WP with a big blast and with the message that this phone is available in stores the next day.
Then you can grab attention, mindshare, people will go to the shops to look for the new beast, to feel it, to test it; simply because they are curious what’s WP8 all about.
Really, there’s no use of presenting the new WP just a couple of days before iPhone5 is all over the place, WP8 will be forgotten just one week later.

    • Bloob says:

Nah, a new iPhone will get tons of people to stores, if they can have a phone there that people can try out they might win over some of Apples customers, especially if they can get good carrier support.

  16. ms.nokia says:

    google is evil,
    android is stolen,
motorola is a hollow company now that google has all its patents,

if nokia has amazing products compared to moto on sept 5th, then google just shot itself in the foot,
hopping for the best out of nokia.

  17. Ofentse says:

Ehhhh Sorry, is Motorola a company???…hahaha, 5th Sep is all about Nokia World not anything else, even if they try they will fail. A company with no design talent can’t take away “Nokia’s World”, wtf is Razr…haaaaa. If it was Apple I would understand. WP8 unveiling with 2nd Gen Lumia is more important, you’ll see on the day.

  18. Anders81 says:

Verizon is going to hear about this.

  19. no matter windows phone 8 is competing mobile os against apple ios and google android..It is good only problem is that price point….

  20. Janne says:

Motorola, we said CLASS not ass.

  21. Doffen says:

The Moto event doesn’t matter i Nokia has something really good to present. However, if the Nokia presentation is about some mediocre WP phone with the same restrictions as the previous WP offers Moto may steal their thunder.
