Rumored Specs of Lumia 820, Includes Wireless Charging, Micro SD & Removable Cover

| September 3, 2012 | 65 Replies

With the recent spurge of leaks regarding the upcoming Nokia Lumia 820 & 920, very little has been left to the imagination; but regarding the internals of these devices the Verge have a bit more to add. The specs of the Lumia 820 are supposedly very similar to that of 920′s rumored specs, even claiming to pack the same camera as it’s big brother.

It would appear as though the only real difference between the 820 and the 920 would be in the screen resolution and the internal storage; if true this would certainly sweeten the deal on this mid range device. And it’s always nice to see that Nokia aren’t skimping on the internals just to keep the price down, hopefully now that we’ve entered the fragmentation zone they’ll understand the importance of competitive specs at competitive prices.

  1. Nokia Lumia 820 e 920: sono queste le caratteristiche? - Tutto Windows Phone | September 4, 2012
  1. Akash says:

    I like design

  2. M says:

Well these leaks escalated pretty quickly.

  3. Doug says:

Nothing special about these specs. There’s already 2 GB RAM and Quad Core 1.6 GHz.

    • Muerte says:

I wouldn’t be shocked if it will be waterproof. Looks like it could. Remember this?

    • KeiZka says:

Oh? There are such WP8 devices out there? Or do you mean the OS that requires task killers..?

    • Savior says:

Yeah, that Android needs! Android doesn’t run well on a single core like iOS & WP. Heck, they barely run well on dual-core. This is NOKIA, not Laggy Android.

      • EPic says:

        LOLOL AGREE… LAGDROIDS SUCKS

      • Doug says:

Check out Android market share and compare it to Windows Phone and iPhone. LOL!

      • BlueSwift says:

Windows Phone 8 OS doesn’t need those specs. BUT the APPS MAY NEED THOSE TO RUN. Upcoming games such as Real Racing 3, will probably wish to have the Qualcomm’s S4 Pro with the needed Areno 320GPU to go with.

        • kunwar says:

games n heavy apps dont need more cores on the CPU these things need better GPUs …. people just dont understand this thing… there are people with dual core i3/i5 proccesors on PC but they want quadcore CPU on thier freakin’ phone…

          • Bloob says:

An x86 core is about 10 times faster than an ARM-one though.

            • kunwar says:

O_o thats something i didnt knew…but still do you think quadcores on phones are justified ?

              • Bloob says:

Depends on the usage / audience. There is no harm in offering a smartphone with one if people are willing to buy.

Ofc, seeing how Qualcomm started manufacturing their quad-cores something like 3 weeks ago, it is quite understandable if the early WP8 phones don’t have one.

The S4 dual-core is faster than quad-core Tegra3 in most relevant usage scenarios for now, and likely for some time. Games of future might require more ( destructible objects and physics modeling could be one thing, or advanced AI, but these would likely push up the price of the games too, and it is unclear if phone-gamers are willing to pay for it ).

          • BlueSwift says:

The 320GPU goes together with the S4 Pro.

      • deep space bar says:

um…no the same shit will happen with WP what happened to android and iOS…..these OSs are NOT DESIGNED FOR SMARTPHONES they are still HUGE OSs and they eat too much battery…so sooner or later all these “current” OS will feel it HARD cause of how android is going and how stupidly fast we want new tech……

      • andy says:

symbian is the most optimzed os.symbian run one of the oldest proccsesor yet able to run very fast.

      • Mahesh says:

very well said.. even Symbian doesnt need dual cores to run smoother!!

    • Pdexter says:

      Sorry but that’s Android.

Look at iPhone where you get prettier games and smoother UI. WP is the same thing as you also get the speed on restricted OS that has dictated hw platforms.

      • Bloob says:

Devs don’t really care about specs that much, what’s more important is the size of the market and preferably a closed ecosystem, they don’t like their games being pirated. As long as the specs on the WP phones match the iPhone specs, it’s enough.

    • anonymous says:

what’s the use of quad cores in a phone, specially in their current condition?… i’d say not much, even the new flagship of sony the xperia t that has dualcore beats the samsung’s flagship the sgs3 that has quad core…

    • ewen says:

& nothing special neither on 2gb ram nor on quadcore.

    • dansus says:

Specs mean nothing, just the experience.

  4. Pdexter says:

If those specs are real, it will be a winner. 920 must have something extra or i can’t see why would you go for Lumia 920.

  5. Riku says:

What intrigues me most is what has Nokia done to differentiate the 920 and 820. Surely not only PureView software?

  6. Viipottaja says:

Looks like the 820 is aimed to be volume device, hopefully aggressively priced.

  7. rudy says:

I hope the 820 has HD screen, if not i’ll definitely know what phone i’m buying from t-mobile.

  8. Toune says:

These two devices look pretty nice, but I don’t think it’s really a surprise, since pureview on nokia lumias was expected.

  9. Priit says:

GREAT Disain .Good look for you ,Nokia !!!

  10. Oleg Derevenetz says:

8MPix camera with PureView? Is this a joke? Any thoughts how this can handle large zoom levels a-la 808? Looks like a regular camera, just with PureView label on it (hardly deservedly).

  11. Dipanjan says:

Ok.. now I get it. That girl in the teaser video was referring to wireless charging with her wave like hand motion.

    I hope that I am wrong. :P

  12. oresama says:

lacks fm radio °_° since i dont stream radio ^-^

    • Hypnopottamus says:

Where did you read that? Even WP7 has FM radio capabilities. I don’t think that’ll be much of a problem for you.

  13. Janimatik says:

Is someone able to measure the screen ratio from these leaked pictures? I know its isometric view but I think it is possible to estimate that is the resolution 1280×720 (16:9) or 1280×768 (16:10)?

Btw. that other picture where 920 is laying on the charging pad and we can see the mini-usb port, is it be possible to estimate the whole thickness by the aid of usb port?

  14. ushoda says:

i keep saying that this one looks like the HTC titan

  15. Heron says:

I have an issue with these specs…

    8GB, seriously?

  16. KF says:

since the 900 is an uglier, much more expensive version of the overpriced 800 which is the same, the same thing can happen here between the 820 and 920. the difference is the 920 will have a bigger screen and pureview branding…

    • deep space bar says:

the 920 is gonna be an over priced, uselessly huge screen that looks like the N9 …what’s your point…Nokia is already recycling the N9 look and it’s getting boring…..good luck looking unique

no more models that are actually DIFFERNT will ever come out cause of the UI of WP….like i mentioned….they ***** up by pushing all of WP…so no more cool looking models for nokia now they will just look generic now

    • Joe says:

Pureview branding doesn’t mean diddly squat if the camera is not actually a pureview camera, at least by the definition that Nokia has set for branding.

They introduced the “Pureview” branding with their 41MP camera. At the very least, they would need a 20MP camera or higher to fit that branding, with the requisite optics.

  17. poiman says:

There must be something about the 920 camera, otherwise why would it be thicker than the 820?

  18. Joe says:

Nokia is simply driving themselves into oblivion and the only person they can blame is themselves. It makes no sense whatsoever for the 920 to have no SD-card support while the lower end 820 does. It makes no sense for the 920 to not have a better camera than the lower end 820. The 920 is the higher end phone and should have better specs across the board.

You can’t afford to make these mistakes Nokia. Get off your ass and start created some truly powerful high end phones. There’s nothing wrong with creating midrange or lower end phones, but the higher end phones should have features the lesser phones do not. My interest in the 920 has plummeted because of the lack of SD support and the same lame camera that was in the 900.

I don’t want a 41MP camera, as the massive sensor would destroy the aesthetics of the phone. But a nice 16-20MP camera with Zeiss optics and SD-card support is needed and wanted. Hell, even a 12MP camera would be better. Your phone designs look great, but you’re failing in other ways Nokia, and you can’t afford to do that.

    • jiipee says:

Didnt the Nokia dev relations guy say that the true killer phones will be out Spring 2013. MS has been in hurry to get WP8 out without bugs and I doubt Nokia has had too much change to include their own stuff.

      • Sefriol says:

Didn’t they include microSD into same place where the sim-card is? But I tend to agree with the camera part a little bit. It’s the same if they can produce superior photos with just 8mp camera, but I really doubt it.
But camera sensor did look quite big in the other leaks. We’ll see in a few days.

      • dss says:

2013..? when that comes along, they will say end of 2013.

    • viktor von d. says:

chill. it’s said both of them have sd card suport. and the 920 looks a hell of a lot thicker than the 820. so it’s possible it does have a bigger sensor

      • dss says:

well lets hope so.. if its one of those “off the shelf” 1/3.2-inch sensors(which is very likely) it will perform as good as.. a gs3/iphone 4s at best.

And if their excuse is “size” they are full of sh*t.. 13mm at the top of the phone is nothing when you can get a much bigger sensor/optics/flash combo in there.

    • deep space bar says:

blame microsoft…they have to wait for them…if they worked on their OWN OS shit and PUSHED their shit properly it would have been delivered much faster >.>

  19. swain says:

It looks more like a old LG design(also someone mentioned earlier). I hope they are not preparing a law suit to sue Nokia. Very pathetic to see Nokia copying some cheap design. Expecting it to be Fake and Nokia come up with some unique design like they did with N8 or N9.

  20. Viipottaja says:

Looking at the 820 design, it looks kind of sporty too. Would go well with some e.g. Polar or Suunto co-branded accessories.

  21. manu says:

does this mean 820 and 920 is sporting same crappy camera as 900/800 ??

  22. nicholas says:

now thats more like my style

  23. tim says:

Everybody knows that the Qualcomm S4 8960 Dual Core cpu can keep up with exynos und tegra3 quad cores with less power consumption.. Anywas Wp 7.5 runs on 1ghz single core so smoothly what do you exoect from 1,5 dual core.. im also sure that nokia will unveil in barcelona 2013 maybe krait quad core with hure pureview sensor 20mp??
