Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon leaks – aka Nokia Atlas
And here is the Windows Phone for Verizon. It looks like a Nokia Lumia 610 that works out at the gym 5 days a week.
The Atlas/822 for Verizon has been rumoured before but it’s the first time it has been seen. Isn’t that bold Verizon lovely ( :s).
It’s nice that the ‘variants’ actually do look different. A little bit Sammy in the way they pushed out the SGSII in different shapes in the US.

The launch gang is forming up quite nicely. I wonder if this and Lumia 510 (WP7) are the final models that can be expected for Q4/2012 launch.
Where’s my lumia verizon 920 IWANT it pleaseee
Unfortunately I think Q1/2013 is the earliest one could expect that. if not only later in spring in a new PureView Phase 3 form. hope I’m wrong of course – I hate the exclusive dealings as much as anyone.
Verizon will surely get PureView in some form, but how soon… or late. That is the question.
how can you possibly know that?
I can’t – it is my assessment of the known leaks, announcements and the logic that follows from my experience.
Nokia could surprise us all with a Verizon 922 tomorrow, for all I know, but I’m just reporting what I have been able to gather from public sources.
I think that in Feb next year, at MWC, Nokia will announce a new WP8 flagship that will be exclusive to Verizon. Perhaps a 41MP with OIS. Who knows. Thing is, the world doesn’t end in november. Nokia will continue to roll out high-end devices. More is sure to come!
Yep, I think this is a likely scenario and in line with the rumours and leaks we’ve seen.
Except that a US exclusive would likely be announced at CES, not MWC.
Good point.
I think it will depend a lot on how fast it is ready. I doubt Nokia is quite as eager to preview models earlier than needed once the WP8 models are out there and selling. They were more “desperate” last year to create early hype (they weren’t “back” in the U.S. yet with Lumia/LTE), as they were for the WP8 launch (to capture some of that iPhone 5 mindshare while their big play, the WP8 was brewing)…
It might be wise for them to wait until the proper time with PureView Phase 3, because they will soon finally have a really competitive set of phones on the market and osbourning those with a new model a lot before its sell date would be unwise. If CES is the proper time, then sure, if the phone is ready… if not maybe MWC or other time.
But since when has Nokia does wise decisions? So anything goes, I guess.
Well, there could be a Lumia 910 as well, which would be some operator variant of the 920, or possibly 920 without the expensive floating camera module. We’ll see. The Lumia 510 will probably be the only actually new device still left for this year.
A non-LTE version of the 920 is a distinct possibility, since it has been said to come. However, will it be called 910 or just 920, 921 or something… time will tell. If it comes, that is. Lumia 900 is LTE in America, yet non-LTE in rest of world, for example even though the number remains the same.
awesome, Q4 sales might be very good after all,
the iphone 5 is available in 3-4 weeks, nokia might beat them to market,
(the iphone 5 was available on 21st september BUT in very limited numbers and sold out in a few hours)
Are you saying 10 million good?
Naah… still hate the exclusive dealings for the 920.
i honestly believe if nokia can supply global markets to meet demand for the new lumia range, then maybe.
i wonder if variants of the 920 will also be made, and maybe the 920 is exclusive because nokia can’t manufacture it in large enough volume to satisfy all markets and carries.
as always, i wish i had more nok
I have heard very strong rumours that flagship phones will be carrier exclusive the first month(s) after release. Atleast in Finland and most likely all over Europe aswell.
Imo this one of the worst things that European retailers are trying to imitate from USA. Fortunately most phones are not carrier locked in Finland
Is any phone really locked to any carrier in Finland? You can by unlocked phones everywhere and just stick you sim in it.
I think the first iPhones sold here were locked to the operator Sonera, but I don’t recall any other examples. I think it is illegal now anyway or at least it is not done anymore. iPhones can be bought unlocked too.
It’s not illegal, but they will have to remove the lock if the customer demands it. There used to be a separate fee for removing the lock, but IIRC charging a fee was deemed illegal. So in practice locking is no longer used even though it’s technically legal. I don’t buy phones on contract, so no personal experience.
Could a low price Nokia WP8 on Verizon be more successful than giving them the costly 920? Because when the quarterly numbers are released this could surely help up those numbers more than the flagship phone could?!
yes it could be, lots of lower price 8xx on multiple carriers will outsell the exclusive 920,
and the 7.8 lumia range is extremely low priced with many similar software features to wp8,
and asha is now categorised a smartphone,
Q4 sales figures could be a pleasant surprise.
Frankly, I think if Nokia has any chance of reaching anywhere near 10 million Lumia sales in Q4, they will need the Lumia 510 for that. But I doubt it will come out soon enough.
Anyway, glad to see the lineup shaping up – it will be an interesting march up until the Q4 results.
pricing for 920 in India is approx. 42000 @ Univercell. check out this link.
http://www.univercell.in/buy/NOKIA/Lumia_920
That is really good price! Normally pricing is way off in India.
Not for Nokia, Indians love Nokia and Nokia is quite decent with prices in India.
Guess we found that leaked 4.3 inch screen from a while back as well.

My one track mind has produced perfection of thought and of will….
Nothing shall deter from the inevitable purchase of the Lumia 920, NOTHING!

Is it me only or does the lumia 822 represent more of a motorola defy or htc type of phones…
I hate Nokia doing sub-standard designs for the US Market to get an exclusive into each operator…Do an exclusive but the designs are taking a back-seat in this case…
Anyway, its business as usual for Nokia to never come up with one killer phone in each category…Hope they get their act together and push-on…
I think the 822 looks worst too, but the rest of your post is a big generalization based on one single variant’s looks, when the rest is the 920, 820, and the imho better looking 810.
What is the reason for these variants?
You never see an iPhone with different look but it sells
No, but you do see such variants of many Android and BlackBerry phones. It is the nature of the U.S. market. Only when your position is commanding enough (Apple, maybe now Samsung), you can circuvent it, but not even the old Nokia could succeed by trying that… let alone now when they have been invisible in the U.S. for years.
I don’t have a problem with the variants personally, but I do dislike the exclusives (e.g. Lumia 920).
It is quite a bad sign that Verizon is not getting a flagship–hopefully there will be one sometime though.
I find the pictures of WP phones showing icons all using the samme theme colour as in this article looks really boring.
They have shown various color themes lately, no longer the blue one that was used with WP 7.5 phones. However, the unitary primary color tiles are quite ugly to me. It’s one thing to use primary colors in the casings, but quite different to use them in the actual UI, where they look simplistic like a 1950′s cartoon.
I have learned to tolerate the Metro UI (or whatever it is called this month), but I doubt will never like it. It’s simply too blocky (and at least the home screen is colorful in a gaudy way), which is the reason I doubt I’ll never have a WP phone as my everyday primary phone. I’ll probably get an affordable WP8 phone (710 successor) once one is available and the price has settled, but that’s it for me as far as WP8 is concerned.
The homescreen can be changed however you want even using pictures. I use the app wallpapers and the app wiztiles.
Well, at least WP8 (and likely 7.8) will have many more accent colors, and with all the tile customization apps you could of course use your own color. Obviously, with 3rd party apps using their own colors your mileage will vary. Sure, if you prefer e.g. those (to me outdated looking) squircles
you won’t find a way out on WP8.
I don’t know what’s outdated in squircles… I actually think they are a better design than iOS or most Android icon designs I have seen. Of course they represent a different aesthetic from the tiles, which are simply too “industrial” and harsh to my liking, but I realize some people like them a lot. The same can be said about the whole Metro UI. It has its fans, but it’s far from being a universally accepted improvement in UI design.
I actually really like the Metro UI but it sucks that so many devs are lazily using a themed-coloured icon rather than desigining nice, custom one. Or at least give us the choice to switch our icons to a custom design because how bland it would be if all icons were the same colour.
Luckily Nokia Lumias have three digit for type variants…
On the other hand this device will not be used by Apple lawyers against Samsung in the next lawsuit…
Notice the new Voice Mail live tile?

i don’t really like this design.even the 610 has a better design, and the verizon logo just kills. would have been really cool to drop the wireless charging on these devices and put in a hd screen instead. just because it’s a nokia i don’t think people on verizon will rush to buy it without some cool features.and this one doesn’t even have a cool design
A lot depends on the price point. Possibly as low as $49 (if not immediately, with a rebate and/or perhaps after Xmas) and it should do ok. Also, obviously, compared to the 8X it has to be well priced.
I might be mad, first Lumia look-alike HTC phones… now this picture reminds me of an HTC Desire V….
From the front at least.
:/
the 3 digit models are getting worse and worse….even worse then the 4 digit models that made more sense years ago
Why?
Elop that’s why.
Predictable…
Oh no no, it’s because three digit model numbers were forced upon the benevolent Europeans by the evil Americans. True story.
The three digit model numbers don’t make much more sense than the classic four digit numbers did, but at least they were an improvement over the C/E/N/X scheme with the confusing two digit appendix. The Lumia and Asha names are an improvement, however, since now Nokia phone at last have something resembling a real name, even if it comes with the more or less arbitrary three digit model number.
So which one would you choose .. HTC Lankku 8X or this ? They will be the same price.
How do you know they will be the same price? I would guess this will be cheaper than the 8X.
But if they were, I would personally take this for better mapping and all other Nokia apps and support. However, I realize a lot of people would go for the 8X for its sleeker looks.
Does the exclusivity deal on 920 mean it won’t be on sale in Europe for the duration of that deal? Or separate deals with other carriers country by country?
Probably the latter, and it will probably be available sim free in countries where that is a significant way of selling new phones (which would be many European and MEA countries and of course China, albeit there’ll will probably be a different variant for China, perhaps without LTE). It would be pure madness not to sell it sim free in Europe.
Scratch that!
I’d forgo Verizon Wireless altogether. Any company that would sell a device subsidized with a 2 year contract and charge $300 for the device and $100 a month for service can eat it.
I’ve been with AT&T since back before they acquired Cingular, and I’ve never looked back.
I will have a Lumia 920, in Red (but i wish they made one orange
att are going to put some cash behind wp8 .. its good for the platform

Elop, please go talk to your boss.. this whole things doesn’t sound good at all.

thing
What’s the deal with these secret leaked-anouncements ?
Nokia made an event in order to introduce their new 820 and 920, why didn’t they talked about the 810 and 822 too ??
Who will care about these two new devices now ? Who will be aware of their existence ? Nobody, because they always screw things up.
I don’t understand Nokia, why do they continue to make the same mistakes ?
Are they dumb ?
You have to understand that they are operator specific variants of the 820 for the US market. Nokia doesn’t even want to make their existence know outside the US, since they won’t be available anywhere else. The global model is the 820, which will be available from Nokia’s number primary carrier partner AT&T in the US (when they have time from selling iPhones, that is
)
