Weekend Watch: Preview Nokia Drive+ Beta for Windows Phone 8
Here’s a preview of Nokia Drive (BETA) for WP8. Note that there are route settings tune your routing, e.g. take/avoid ferries, tunnels, motorways etc.
Apparently much smoother.

At least a few more things that drive on Symbian already had. Of course, once again not for wp7.x users. Isn’t it a bit odd that buying a Symbian^3 device still gives you the better Nokia Maps and Drive experience compared to wp7.x and even 8?
Ps: is there a problem with the server, Jay? Always getting 504 errors, mostly while trying to comment

Well, at least they’re making improvements in the WP department. It’s better than nothing.
And yes, I am also aware that the new features in both Maps and Drive for the WP8 Lumia phones won’t be available for current WP 7.x phones but they (Nokia) did promise improvements to the current Maps, Drive and other apps as per Nokia Conversations.
Yeah. Maps is one of my most used apps. I wont be switching until WP8 gets voice directions with street names and some form of music bypass.

Well Nokia did have since 2007(?) to get Nokia Maps to what it is on Symbian.
Very interesting blog and post man. I’ve been checking back quite regularly for any updates you have on Nokia maps, WP 7.8 etc. I kind of feel like I’m gonna be stuck in limbo with a lot of others: the contract for my E5 ended in September, and as Nokia/Ovi maps was awesome and the main reason I used the phone I went straight for the lumia 800 a month ago, on a 2 year contract. At this point I hadn’t realised that wp 8 was the future and the WP 7 phones weren’t getting the upgrade. Kind of wished I’d waited a few months til WP 8 got established in the UK. I’ve also seen posts where Nokia employees have said they’ll keep supporting their WP 7 apps. Do you reckon we’ll eventually see updates that take us close to the WP 8 beta release, or even back to the amount of features Symbian had? I appreciate that they’ve built the apps from scratch and they’ve come a hell of a long way in a year, but I really hope we get some more features that the app is crying out for. Not having the option to turn off motorways etc. is a real bitch! Do you reckon we’ll continue to see some decent updates to drive and maps? Cheers man!
