Two major old school brands launched new phones on the 5th of September 2012. Nokia and Motorola. One got people’s attention. The other…well, no one really knows. Causing a buzz and stirring up global/worldwide trending topics on twitter, the Nokia Lumia phones have reached Reddit’s front page.

This is quite a feat, especially for a phone launch. This hugely popular site around the world, and particularly around the US is often regarded as the front page of the internet. Things that get on reddit tend to go viral. e.g. The indestructible Nokia memes for which they have a soft spot for dear old Nokia.

It’s interesting to see some fresh take on Nokia. Many comments here seem uneducated about what Nokia has achieved in the past and what they did today. Fortunately, some Nokia/WP fans are long time redditors helping to educate on what precisely these Nokia features mean.

I can’t imagine their reaction if they heard about the Nokia 808 PureView’s 41MP camera with rich recording and huge sensor. Granted it’s Symbian but that would have been something exciting on the imaging scene.

Things seemed to be liked in this thread is Windows Phone. People new to it are saying after trying it, they like it. They also like the sound of the floating lens and wireless charging as well as the usual beautiful design from Nokia.

I read a comment that since Nokia has been using WP their phones have gotten ‘better’. Perhaps that’s true but perhaps Nokia’s just become more noticable now.

The Nokia 808 PureView will remain one of the best niche camera phones ever, with superlative quality in picture/video/audio. The Nokia Lumia 920 will go some way into paving a path of bringing Nokia back to mainstream, hopefully preparing them for the time when PureView pro and the floating lens gets combined into the 2013 Lumia.
