Video: MeeGo Phone UX 1.2 (1.1.99 DE release) on Nokia N900

Last year we were so excited about the potential of MeeGo. Demoes looked good given the time frame and we were hoping for a MeeGo Phone release at Nokia World 2010 that would signify the come back of Nokia.

Lateness of the N8 meant that instead Symbian^3 became the star. MeeGo was pushed aside for 2011 and later relegated as an experiment whilst out of the blue, Windows Phone became Nokia’s primary smartphone platform.

I have pretty much zero expectations for whatever Nokia does any more with MeeGo. If it’s great, that’s awesome (I can invest more hope and faith) if not, well I don’t care.

Below is an unofficial demo of MeeGo 1.2 (1.1.99 DE Release) by running from an 8GB memory card. It runs quite smoothly for the most of it (which is great given that it’s running off memory card) and is apparently smoother than NitDroid in terms of usability and smoothness. UI wise, this is bland, boring grey vanilla, minus many icons. Remember how much better the UI looked with themes?

N900 will be getting MeeGo Developer Edition, and of course the dedicated MeeGo/Harmattan phone N950 from Nokia will come out with the best/most complete experience of MeeGo handset.

Man…! For Nokia World 2011, Nokia needs to show ACTION. So far it has just been words and empty promises. I’m down for the accountability Elop is harping on about. Get rid of those execs that fail to execute.
